Comedian Kim Hyun-sook revealed the circumstances behind her divorce shortly after showing a harmonious appearance on a couple's variety show.
On the MBN show ‘Sokpuri Show Dongchimi’ aired on the 6th, Kim Hyun-sook confessed about her divorce situation under the topic, "Did you act like you were getting along as a couple?"
She began, "I thought that someday I would want to clarify or explain. I received questions in the comments that contained this topic."
She continued, "Before the divorce, I appeared on a couple's variety show called ‘The Taste of Wife’ where my husband and I showed a good image. After the broadcast, we divorced rather quickly, and I think that led to misunderstandings among many viewers. It was certainly not a lie, but there were circumstances that made me not want to do that program too much."
She explained, "I was scammed by an acquaintance of my ex-husband over a decade ago and lost a huge amount of money. But ultimately, since I was the head of the household, I couldn't take a break, could I?" She added, "I didn't decide to divorce because of the scam, but I felt I had no choice because I had to support my family."
Kim Hyun-sook said, "Since my child was only 3 or 4 years old, I had to spend money on living expenses and other things, so I had no choice. There were good aspects to living together, but those good points were highlighted. After the broadcast, a series of events happened, and only we knew about our relationship. Then we ended up getting divorced."
She expressed, "When the divorce article came out, I wanted to be proud. If there are programs or YouTube videos I appear in, there are comments, right? When I read them, wanting to fix the negative ones, I saw comments like, 'You pretended to be good on ‘The Taste of Wife’ not long ago. Are all celebrities just acting? Do the writers provide all the scripts?' There were so many comments like that."
Additionally, she said, "If there had been other projects, I might have avoided this. As a person, I had to do it, but I can't explain everything, and sometimes memories from that time come back, making me feel a pang in my heart," she said, tearing up.
She added, "The viewers are not wrong. Since there were such circumstances, I would appreciate it if you could view it a little more kindly," as she shed tears.
Kim Hyun-sook married a non-celebrity in 2014 and had a son, but they divorced in December 2020.
