YouTuber Daedoseogwan (46, real name Na Dong-hyun), who had 1.44 million subscribers, has passed away. In the meantime, excessive hate comments directed at his ex-wife, YouTuber Yumdang (40, real name Lee Chae-won), have been pouring in.
Following the news of Daedoseogwan's death on the 6th, Yumdang's social media has been flooded with both messages of condolence and hate comments.
Some netizens offered words of comfort, saying things like, "I hope you don't feel too overwhelmed," "Take care of your heart," "I hope you don't feel too sad," "You must have been very surprised," and "Don't worry about what others say."
However, some haters left comments that crossed the line, such as "Married and divorced a woman with a child," "I hope Daedoseogwan's assets don't flow down to someone who isn't family," and "It's your fault." In response, Yumdang deleted some posts or closed the comment section.
Daedoseogwan's funeral is being held in Room 205 of the Konkuk University Hospital funeral hall located in Hwayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, with Yumdang as the chief mourner.
Daedoseogwan married fellow popular YouTuber Yumdang in 2015. At that time, Yumdang was raising a son from her previous marriage, and it became a topic of interest that Daedoseogwan was marrying for the first time.
The couple divorced by mutual agreement in 2023, eight years after their marriage. At that time, Daedoseogwan stated, "It's not that we are parting due to something bad. As we lived together, we wanted to focus more on our work. Living as a family, we found that we could get along better as friends, but there were some conflicts, which led to the divorce."
He added, "We see each other once a week and keep in touch often. In fact, we became much closer after the decision to divorce," explaining, "We meet once a week to hang out and part on good terms."
Yumdang also mentioned, "We had difficult times together. There was burnout. I thought, is there really a need to hurt each other? So, when we decided to divorce, it actually became more comfortable. We became the kind of relationship where we can comfortably eat and talk when we meet."
Meanwhile, Daedoseogwan was found dead at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on the 6th. A friend reported him to the police after he failed to show up for an appointment and could not be reached, and the police discovered him at the scene. No signs of foul play or a suicide note were found.
A police official stated, "It is presumed that Mr. Na died from a chronic illness," adding, "We plan to confirm the exact cause of death through an autopsy." He had recently complained of chest pain, so the cause of death is leaning towards a chronic illness.
