Foreign media focused on PSY, who has been placed under police investigation for allegedly receiving illegal prescriptions and proxy pickups.

On the 28th (local time), the British media 'The Sun' published an article titled 'Gangnam Style singer PSY under police investigation over prescription pills as viral star issues grovelling apology'.

The media emphasized the humiliating nature of the incident by using the word 'grovelling', which means 'to bow down' or 'to cringe'.

It reported, citing domestic news, that "PSY is under investigation for illegally receiving prescription medication through a proxy."

According to the police, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul is investigating PSY and Professor A from a university hospital who prescribed the medication for violations of the Medical Law. The police are reportedly investigating allegations that PSY received prescriptions for psychotropic drugs from a university hospital in Seoul without in-person consultations from 2022 until recently, and that he received them through his manager.

The police recently conducted a search and seizure at the hospital to secure relevant medical records.

PSY clarified through his agency, “It is a clear mistake and oversight to have received a prescription sleep aid through a proxy. I have been prescribed and taken the medication under the guidance of medical professionals. There was no proxy prescription. There were instances where a third party received the sleep aid on my behalf during that process.”

In response, the Korean Medical Association raised concerns, stating, “This should not be viewed simply as a personal issue, but as a serious matter that could affect the safety of society as a whole due to his celebrity status, and it should be thoroughly addressed.” A netizen claiming to be a doctor also pointed out, “It’s not a proxy prescription, so what does it mean to say it’s a proxy pickup? A third party receiving a prescription on behalf of someone else is what is called a proxy prescription.”
