A current doctor has pointed out the explanation given by singer Psy (real name Park Jae-sang, 48) regarding the proxy receipt of psychotropic drugs.
A person identifying as a doctor, referred to as A, posted on social media (SNS) on the 28th, saying, "It's not a proxy prescription, so what does 'proxy receipt' even mean?" and added, "The act of a third party receiving a prescription on behalf of someone else is called a proxy prescription."
He continued, "Since psychotropic drugs and narcotics are legally impossible to prescribe and treat through non-face-to-face consultations, it seems he realized his mistake after saying he had been doing non-face-to-face consultations for years and changed his words to the strange term 'proxy receipt'."
He added, "Unfortunately, violations of medical laws involving psychotropic drugs or narcotics are punished very strictly, so it will be difficult for Psy or the prescribing doctor to avoid punishment."
The day before, the Seoul Seodaemun Police announced that they are investigating Psy and Professor B from a university hospital who prescribed the medication for violations of medical laws.
Psy is reportedly accused of having his manager receive prescriptions for psychotropic drugs, Xanax and Stilnox, from a university hospital in Seoul without undergoing face-to-face consultations from 2022 until recently.
Xanax and Stilnox are medications used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression, and require a doctor's diagnosis and prescription due to their dependency and addictive nature. Professor B is said to deny the related allegations, claiming that he conducted consultations non-face-to-face.
In relation to this, Psy's agency, P Nation, issued an official statement on the 28th, saying, "The act of receiving a prescription sleep medication on behalf of someone else is a clear mistake and oversight. We apologize," while emphasizing, "The use of sleep medication has been prescribed in the proper dosage under the guidance of medical professionals, and there was no proxy prescription."
The police plan to summon Psy after analyzing the medical records obtained through a search and seizure.
