Son Eun-yu, a participant in ‘Devil's Plan 2’, has announced that she is preparing to become an actress after quitting her job as a lawyer.
On the 27th, a video titled “What am I doing after quitting my job as a lawyer?” was posted on Son Eun-yu's YouTube channel.
In the video, Son Eun-yu said, “Today, I want to talk about my resignation. I have been contemplating how long I would continue this job, and I have a dream that I originally wanted to pursue. Before it gets too late, I thought I should challenge myself and if I can, I want to make that my profession for the rest of my life, so I decided to resign.”
She shared, “My childhood dream was to be an actress. In 2019, I actually submitted my profile. But I don’t think I ever thought about learning acting. If I were my usual self, I would have tried learning right away to see if it suited me and made a rational decision quickly, but looking back now, I think I was scared. I had thoughts like, ‘What if I learn and I can’t do it?’ or ‘What if I love it too much?’”
Afterward, she decided to pursue a career as an M&A lawyer but realized it was not suited for her.
Son Eun-yu explained, “I am not meticulous or cold-blooded. After working, I realized that being meticulous is an important factor. It’s not that I dislike it or find it boring; it’s fulfilling and very good, but rather than doing something that showcases my strengths, I felt like it was a job where I constantly had to work hard to compensate for my weaknesses.”
She continued, “Originally, I couldn’t say I would go back to my old dream of becoming an actress, and I thought about changing my career to investment. Then, while working late on a Sunday, my younger sibling told me to apply for ‘Devil's Plan 2’, so I did. Until then, I hadn’t thought much about it. I think I went out because I needed dopamine without seriously considering what it meant to participate in a survival show. I expected the reaction to be bad, and because of that, I spent the latter half of last year without thinking about it.”
Son Eun-yu mentioned, “I have friends who are learning acting, and when I talked to them and they said they had attended acting classes, I felt so envious and thought it sounded fun. I didn’t know. So I thought, let’s try learning first, and I started taking acting classes from January this year. But as soon as I started, I thought, ‘This is a big deal.’ It was so much fun.”
She added, “At first, I regretted it. I thought, ‘Why didn’t I do this five years ago?’ But I think I was able to make the decision to fully commit to this now because I had experienced what I consider the best version of myself as a lawyer during those five years.”
Son Eun-yu stated, “I no longer have a steady paycheck. After graduating, enrolling, graduating, and starting work, this is the first time since I was four that I haven’t belonged anywhere. I thought I would feel anxious, but instead, I feel a lot of freedom, and since I haven’t set anything in motion, nothing has happened yet. I’m just preparing now and spending more time on acting classes and practice.”
She said, “After resigning in July and returning from Vegas, I finally put together my profile properly. I submitted my profile, and thankfully, I had the opportunity to audition and had a meeting with an agency. I probably won’t have an agency for a while. Usually, when I quit, I would prepare for the next step simultaneously, but this time, I’m starting my preparations after finishing, so I don’t have anything to report yet, which is a bit embarrassing, but I wanted to at least audition and share that, and I was very lucky to have those opportunities, so I can share my plans as intended. I’m just studying hard, practicing, and trying to knock on doors for opportunities. I feel relieved.”
She continued, “At first, I didn’t mention what I was doing, and quite some time passed, but there were so many people who said they would support me no matter what I did, and that made me really grateful to the point of tearing up on some days. So I want to express my gratitude to those who send me such feelings. I know that not everyone will view this positively. I’ve been prepared to hear voices of concern and criticism during these past few months.”
In conclusion, she said, “I think I’ve been calm because I haven’t held my desperate dream hostage. So I’m worried about the future. I thought I was a calm person who doesn’t get nervous, but isn’t this really a dream? So I feel very desperate. If I’m truly this desperate, I might face a different side of myself than I’ve known. But I’m excited. Just the fact that I’m challenging myself to do something I really want to do makes me feel chills and immense happiness. I feel a thrill.”
Son Eun-yu joined the Netflix variety show ‘Devil's Plan 2’ after passing a 1000:1 competition rate in the general participant recruitment announcement.
