In the 8th episode of SBS's large-scale global boy group audition program ‘B:MY BOYZ’ aired on the 9th, the third TOP idol Wanna One's Bae Jin-young, Lee Dae-hwi (AB6IX), Ha Sung-woon, and Park Woo-jin (AB6IX) revealed their choices for the 3rd round ‘TOP PICK’, continuing the fierce journey of B:GINNERs.
The 3rd round ‘B:GINNER’s PICK Match’ featured a competition between Beauty+Energetic (Choi Yo-han, Li Ziwei, William, Kim Bo-hyun, Ikuto, Hiroto) and Energetic+Full (Lim Ji-hwan, Haruto, Ai, Hyo, Kang Jun-sung, Seo Jun-hyuk), as well as a battle between Boom+Merang (Lee Yoon-sung, Kai, Bae Daniel, Jang Won, Yang Seong-hee, Park Jun-hyuk) and Full+Burn It Up (Kim Jung-hoon, Park Se-chan, Yang Hyun-bin, Lee Yeon-tae, Lee Jun-myeong, Moon Jae-il). Notably, the team switch format where the ‘Energetic’ and ‘Beautiful’ teams took turns performing the first and second verses heightened the tension of the survival show. Previously, the stages of ‘Energetic’ and ‘Beautiful’ received high praise from Wanna One.
In this episode, a face-off between the Avengers Full+Burn It Up and the dark horse Boom+Merang teams took place. The Full+Burn It Up team, led by main dancer Moon Jae-il, delivered an overwhelming charisma in the first verse of ‘BOOMERANG’, while the Boom+Merang team, led by center Kai, also showcased their focus in the second verse performance. In response, Lee Dae-hwi remarked, “Did they do better than us?” and added, “It’s a difficult song, but it’s amazing that they performed it live. The opening and group dance of the Full+Burn It Up team, with Moon Jae-il’s intense gaze, were great,” he praised. Bae Jin-young and Ha Sung-woon commented, “The Boom+Merang team highlighted each member's charm and executed the killing parts well.”
Following the hard-to-judge ‘BOOMERANG’, the confident performances of the two teams in ‘Burn It Up’ were revealed. The Boom+Merang team focused on the killing part of the first verse, while the Full+Burn It Up team emphasized the dance break in the second verse during their practice. The B:GINNERs improved the stage's completeness through the detailed lessons from choreographer Moon Jae-il and master Ria Kim. The Full+Burn It Up team received feedback that they needed to showcase more of each member's charm during the mid-check, and they enhanced their gestures and expressions through close-up shots. Park Woo-jin encouraged, “I hope they can break the final stage with the mindset of doing better than Wanna One.”
The dazzling live performance stage, where everyone poured their all, received a big round of applause from the Wanna One members. Lee Dae-hwi said, “I keep my eyes on Jang Won. Bae Daniel is truly a gem. Despite his young age, he is doing his own thing.” Ha Sung-woon praised the Full+Burn It Up team’s stage, saying, “I understand why this team chose ‘Burn It Up’. They seem to be doing well compared to our stage.” Park Woo-jin noted, “Kim Jung-hoon stood out well as the center,” while Bae Jin-young remarked, “Moon Jae-il’s wave was incredibly sexy. Both teams were neck and neck.” The B:GINNERs from the ‘BOOMERANG’ and ‘Burn It Up’ teams expressed satisfaction, saying, “We showed it without regrets.”
Wanna One’s ‘TOP PICK’ was selected by a total of 6 individuals, with 2 from the winning team and 1 from the losing team. The winning team received additional points. The Wanna One members reviewed the stage videos and deliberated on the ‘TOP PICK’. Notably, comments like “Hyo and Ai are better than me. Kim Bo-hyun has a solid vocal tone. Kai has a great vibe. Bae Daniel has tremendous passion. The teamwork is perfect” caught attention. After discussions, the winning teams chosen by Wanna One were Ener+Full (Lim Ji-hwan, Haruto, Ai, Hyo, Kang Jun-sung, Seo Jun-hyuk), who created an emotional stage, and the well-balanced Full+Burn It Up (Kim Jung-hoon, Park Se-chan, Yang Hyun-bin, Lee Yeon-tae, Lee Jun-myeong, Moon Jae-il) team.
The highly anticipated ‘TOP PICK’ B:GINNER was awarded to Hyo, Seo Jun-hyuk, Li Ziwei, Moon Jae-il, Kim Jung-hoon, and Kai. Hyo expressed, “I want to run straight to debut,” while Seo Jun-hyuk said, “I feel proud to be recognized.” Li Ziwei shared, “I was really surprised and happy that it was real.” Moon Jae-il stated, “I focused on myself and went wild,” Kim Jung-hoon said, “I gained confidence that this part of me resonates,” and Kai expressed, “I will continue to show a challenging side.”
Following this, MC Dex announced the overall rankings for the 3rd round. Hyo, who was selected as ‘TOP PICK’, also secured the 1st place in the votes from B:inUS (Venus), stating, “I’m so happy to receive my first 1st place, and I thank the Venus fans.” Lee Yeon-tae, Kang Jun-sung, Haruto, and Kai also made it to the TOP 5, intensifying the fierce ranking competition. The B:GINNERs who were eliminated in the 3rd round, ranked 21st to 24th, were Yang Seong-hee, Choi Yo-han, Ikuto, and William.
William said, “It was an honor to be able to stand on stage together,” while Ikuto expressed, “They treated me warmly and helped me practice, creating good memories.” Choi Yo-han and Yang Seong-hee also conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone. The B:GINNERs embraced each other and promised to meet again, evoking emotions.
After a brief farewell, the remaining B:GINNERs received their final 4th round mission. The 4th round ‘K-POP Legend Match’ with TVXQ’s Yunho will feature a ‘selected song match’ where keywords representing the history of K-POP and TVXQ’s representative songs are chosen, and a ‘designated song match’ where all teams perform TVXQ’s debut song ‘HUG’. The TOP 3 from the 3rd round, Hyo, Lee Yeon-tae, and Kang Jun-sung, selected ‘Rising Sun (Pure)’, ‘Mirotic’, and ‘Keep Your Head Down’ respectively, choosing keywords and team members themselves. Thus, the teams for the 4th round were formed: the addictive ‘Rising Sun’ (Li Ziwei, Park Se-chan, Park Jun-hyuk, Ai, Lim Ji-hwan, Hyo), the connected ‘Mirotic’ (Kim Bo-hyun, Moon Jae-il, Bae Daniel, Seo Jun-hyuk, Yang Hyun-bin, Lee Yeon-tae, Lee Jun-myeong), and the dynamic ‘Keep Your Head Down’ (Kang Jun-sung, Kim Jung-hoon, Lee Yoon-sung, Jang Won, Kai, Haruto, Hiroto).
Before the 4th round competition, the B:GINNERs met with physiognomy and tarot experts. The physiognomy and tarot expert explained, “Kai has the appearance of an idol that stands out by his very existence. Hiroto has a fortune for food. Kang Jun-sung’s lip mole signifies popularity. Haruto has a strong character. The more Moon Jae-il shows himself, the more he stands out. Kim Jung-hoon and Park Se-chan have good chemistry.” The fortune teller stated, “Lee Jun-myeong has the qualities of a fighting leader. Hyo will reach his peak at the age of 27.”
The highly anticipated 4th round ‘K-POP Legend Match’ with TVXQ’s Yunho will officially unfold in next week’s broadcast. Expectations are high for how much the newly formed B:GINNERs will grow and capture the hearts of K-POP fans across generations.
