An employee of the Busan International Film Festival, who was indicted for illegally filming a female colleague, has been sentenced to prison.

On the 17th, the Busan District Court's Criminal Division 10 (Judge Heo Seong-min) sentenced a man in his 40s, referred to as A, to 1 year in prison for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (using a camera for filming) and ordered his immediate detention. A was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.

During the sentencing hearing held on the 6th of last month, the prosecution had sought a 3-year prison term for A.

The court stated, "The defendant's actions caused significant harm to the victim's personality, honor, and overall life," adding, "The victim is hoping for severe punishment for the defendant." It further noted, "Although the defendant has deposited a considerable amount for the victim, the victim has consistently expressed to the court that she has no intention of accepting it."

A is accused of illegally filming B, a woman in her 30s who worked as a short-term contract employee from April to July 2023, by secretly placing a mobile phone on a bedside table while they were having sexual relations. B reportedly discovered the illegal filming later and reported A to the police and the Korean Film Gender Equality Center 'Dundun' in May of last year. The footage was not distributed online or elsewhere.
