Actress Cate Blanchett has become a hot topic for her appearance in 'Squid Game' Season 3.
Cate Blanchett appeared in the final episode of the Netflix original series 'Squid Game' Season 3, which was released on the 27th.
The Frontman (Lee Byung-hun) sees two people playing ddakji in a back alley in Los Angeles, USA. The woman in a suit playing ddakji was none other than Cate Blanchett, appearing as the ddakji man played by Gong Yoo in Seasons 1 and 2.
Earlier, it was reported through foreign media that director David Fincher, known for films like 'Fight Club', 'Seven', and 'Gone Girl', would be directing the American version of 'Squid Game'.
While Netflix has not officially announced this, Cate Blanchett's appearance in 'Squid Game' Season 3 has garnered attention.
The Hollywood Reporter speculated, "With Cate Blanchett's appearance, it suggests that players are being recruited for the game in the U.S." and added, "It leaves a big question about how 'Squid Game' will unfold in the future and what role Cate Blanchett will play."
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed in Netflix's 'Squid Game Story' that they had kept Cate Blanchett's participation a secret for a long time.
Lee Jung-jae confessed, "I didn't know. No one told me. Someone around me mentioned that a famous Hollywood actor would appear, but I didn't hear it. I thought, 'Could it be?' I had no idea such a famous actor would actually appear."
Lee Byung-hun said, "Even though Cate Blanchett is an actress I really admire, we couldn't even greet each other due to time constraints. We just went back and forth in front of the camera without even saying 'hi'. That was disappointing."
He added, "I saw Cate Blanchett practicing ddakji on set for a long time. It was close enough to see her face well from a distance, and she was practicing for quite a while."
In response, director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "I sent her the ddakji in advance, but she didn't get to practice properly. She had to flip it, but she couldn't hit it at all, so I gave her a one-point lesson there. One take actually flipped over. There’s a shot where it goes up to the face with a foot, and that was actually flipped, and we used that as is. The confident expression she had when she flipped it is alive in that take."
'Squid Game' Season 3 tells the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who loses his best friend in a game he re-enters with his own purpose, the Frontman (Lee Byung-hun), who hides his identity while infiltrating the game, and the final fate of the participants who survive in that brutal game.
