Actress Seo Hyorim candidly shared her experiences of conflict with her late mother-in-law, Kim Sumi.
On the 29th, Seo Hyorim appeared as a guest on the KBS Joy entertainment program 'Love's Dilemma' spin-off web show 'Love's Dilemma: Men vs. Women.'
The story shared that day involved a daughter-in-law who sold a luxury bag gifted by her mother-in-law on a second-hand trading platform. Seo Hyorim mentioned, "Although this situation is different, I have experienced something similar," referring to past conflicts with her mother-in-law.
Seo Hyorim explained, "When my daughter Joy turned one, I went on a trip to Jeju Island with my parents. My mother-in-law directly expressed her feelings, saying, 'I feel hurt that you didn't invite me and only went with your parents.'
She continued, "My mother sent a message after having a drink. I logically explained, 'If I go with my in-laws, I can't ask them to take care of my daughter. I wanted to take my parents so I could leave Joy with them. It's better to go with my in-laws for a more relaxed trip, and when I need to handle everything myself, it's right to go with my parents. If this makes you feel hurt, I'm sorry, but I had no choice in the situation,' and I spoke honestly."

Kim Sumi came to Jeju the next day. Seo Hyorim said, "My mother expressed all her feelings after a bit of drinking, but once she sobered up, she realized I was right. Since my mother-in-law is older than my parents, she can't take care of Joy or prepare baby food. When I want to have time alone with my husband and travel, I have to leave Joy with my parents, and my mother acknowledged that right away," indicating that the conflict was quickly resolved.
She added, "When she came to Jeju, she took me around to meet some acquaintances," which brought laughter.
Seo Hyorim also advised, "In such cases, I speak honestly. If I say something that isn't my true feelings just to please someone, it makes me uncomfortable next time. If we don't clarify our positions, it can lead to misunderstandings between us."
