The mother of actress Han So-hee, who is accused of establishing multiple illegal gambling houses, received a suspended prison sentence in the appeal trial as well.
The Chuncheon District Court's Criminal Division 1 today (16th) sentenced 55-year-old Shin to 1 year in prison, suspended for 2 years, and ordered 120 hours of community service for the charge of establishing gambling houses.
Shin was found to have committed the crime by setting up adult PC gaming rooms under the guise of a proxy manager, in exchange for profit sharing, or by colluding with operators of adult PC gaming rooms to allow customers to engage in online gambling, commonly known as baccarat.
Shin collected money by taking a commission from a certain percentage of the total amount bet by users of the gambling site, as well as a commission from a certain percentage of the amount lost in bets. She operated a total of 7 illegal gambling houses, with 5 in Wonju and 1 each in Ulsan and Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
Shin was previously caught in 2021 for violating the Game Industry Promotion Act and was fined 5 million won in 2023.
Han So-hee's agency stated regarding her mother's case, "This is a highly personal matter involving Han So-hee's mother," and added, "Han So-hee learned about the situation through the news, and this incident has nothing to do with her as an actress. We apologize for bringing uncomfortable news that is unrelated to her work."
