The fan union of actor Kim Soo-hyun has reported YouTuber Kwon Young-chan, who is a former comedian.
Yang Tae-young, a lawyer from the law firm Siwoo representing the Kim Soo-hyun fan union, announced on the 9th, “On the 7th, the Kim Soo-hyun fan union reported YouTuber Kwon Young-chan and over 100 trolls to the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul.”
The fan union accused Kwon Young-chan of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation).
They claimed that Kwon Young-chan repeatedly spread false information through his YouTube broadcasts and videos, stating that “actor Kim Soo-hyun has been in a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor,” “committed criminal acts against the deceased,” “had a sexual perversion towards minors,” and “had sexual relations with the deceased during her minor years.”
They explained, “We could no longer tolerate the ongoing malicious slander, dissemination of false information, defamation, and character insult directed at Kim Soo-hyun, which is why we proceeded with the complaint.”
Additionally, they warned, “On the 30th of last month, we also reported over 100 trolls to the Seongbuk Police Station on the same charges, and we plan to respond strongly to any further dissemination of false information about Kim Soo-hyun.”
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, also announced on the same day that they have filed additional complaints against Kim Se-yi, the operator of the YouTube channel ‘Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon),’ for defamation and violations of the Stalking Punishment Act, as well as against the family of the late Kim Sae-ron for defamation.
The family of Kim Sae-ron has been claiming since March that Kim Soo-hyun was in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron for six years starting from 2016 when she was 15 years old, through Gaseyeon. On the 7th, Gaseyeon and the family held a press conference and stated that they have filed a complaint against Kim Soo-hyun for violating the Child Welfare Act and for false accusations, claiming, “We confirmed that Kim Soo-hyun engaged in lewd acts or sexual abuse against Kim Sae-ron when she was in the second year of middle school during winter break.”
Kim Soo-hyun's agency immediately issued a statement on the same day, rebutting, “The recorded files in question are completely fabricated.” Kim Soo-hyun's side has previously filed defamation charges against the family and an unidentified person claiming to be an ‘aunt,’ as well as against Kim Se-yi, the operator of Gaseyeon, and has also filed a lawsuit for damages amounting to 11 billion won.
