The agency of actor Namgoong-min has officially warned about the recent increase in so-called 'manager impersonation fraud.'
On the 9th, 935 Entertainment released an official statement saying, “We have confirmed that there are fraudulent activities aiming for financial gain by impersonating our staff.”
They continued, “In particular, there have been cases where individuals claim to be the managers of our affiliated celebrities and target small business owners by making high-value orders under the pretense of hosting a gathering, only to 'no-show'.”
Examples of the fraud include approaching restaurants and wine sales companies to order expensive menu items worth hundreds of thousands of won, and then failing to show up at the agreed time.
The agency emphasized, “Managers and staff affiliated with 935 Entertainment will never request money transfers or product purchases from outside.”
They also stated, “If you receive similar requests, please do not respond and report it to the police immediately,” adding, “We recognize the seriousness of the situation and will actively respond to prevent further damage.”
As cases of impersonating celebrities to commit fraud continue to occur, the agencies of popular actor Byun Woo-seok and singer Song Ga-in have also mentioned similar incidents and urged caution, indicating a strong response policy.
