The group (G)I-DLE is embarking on a new beginning as I-DLE.
On the 1st, I-DLE (Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Yuqi, Shuhua) announced the change of their group name from '(G)I-DLE' to 'I-DLE' through their official SNS channels. Celebrating their 7th anniversary since their debut on May 2, 2018, the group is starting anew as I-DLE, leaving behind the name they have used since their debut.
I-DLE has removed 'G' and 'female' from the group name they previously used as (G)I-DLE. Through this, I-DLE has reestablished their identity as a group that cannot be defined by 'female', 'GENDER', or any gender. The agency expressed their expectation that “by also removing the parentheses, which are symbols used to distinguish or emphasize other aspects, we will show music and concepts without limits.”
Along with this, I-DLE's new logo and symbol have also been revealed. The logo, composed of lowercase 'i d l e', expands in a circular shape and utilizes the principles of points, lines, and surfaces in its structural design, symbolizing the infinite possibilities and organic connections of I-DLE. In this regard, the agency explained, “In particular, the symbol formed by the five 'i's coming together to create a star shape signifies the five unique members of I-DLE coming together to become one unified I-DLE.”
Last December, all members re-signed with Cube Entertainment, and with this bold rebranding, they are signaling a leap towards greater heights, not just a simple change of group name. I-DLE is set to meet fans soon with their strengthened teamwork and expanded musicality as 'I-DLE'.
I-DLE has been loved for hit songs such as 'Hwaa', 'Tomboy', and 'Queencard'. Last year, their second full album '2' (Two) topped domestic and international music charts with the title track 'Super Lady', and the track 'I Hate That I'm Sick' created a reverse chart surge.
