Singer Solbi mentioned the reason she started painting.
On the 21st, Solbi appeared on Channel A's 'Close Friends Documentary - Four-Person Table' and shared her recent situation and past struggles.
On that day, Solbi talked about the specific reasons that led her to start art after overcoming a slump. She revealed that she had gone through a tough time due to past malicious comments, theft, and family issues, and at one point, she even thought about giving up on life.
Solbi explained, “Around 2008, I went through a slump. There was cyberbullying that I couldn't handle, and in 2009, there were rumors about fake videos,” recalling her mental struggles from the past.
She continued, “A lot of personal issues piled up. My mom fell ill and had to go to the hospital, and I was in a situation where I had to pay off my dad's debts,” adding, “On top of that, we were robbed at home. The damage amounted to about 200 million won,” shocking everyone.
Solbi said, “After being robbed when everything was already difficult, I felt like my existence had lost its value,” and added, “I started to wonder, ‘Am I someone needed in this world?’ and I imagined, ‘What if I ended my life?’”
During her tough times, Solbi climbed Jirisan Mountain to sort out her thoughts and said she heard a voice saying, “Be a strength to those who are suffering like you right now.”
She continued, “From that moment, my eyes opened clearly, and I could see everything vividly. Even without looking closely at flowers or trees, I could see the sky in detail, as if I had undergone LASIK. What is this feeling? From that moment, the world suddenly looked beautiful. Yes, I am alive. I felt precious and started to paint. It was as if I was reborn at that time,” revealing the reason she was able to rise again.
Solbi debuted in the music industry in 2006 as the main vocalist of Typhoon. She gained immense popularity in 2008 through the MBC entertainment program 'We Got Married' with her unique charm. However, she suffered from various rumors and went through a slump, and in 2010, she began her activities as a painter for healing purposes. Since 2012, she has continued her activities under the name Kwon Ji-an, starting with her first solo exhibition.
