Actor Yoo Yeon-seok, who was embroiled in a controversy over a tax claim of 7 billion won, has been able to clear his name. Following the clarification process, the amount of the claim was reduced by half.
His agency, 'King Kong by Starship', stated on the 10th, "As a result of actively clarifying through legal procedures, we recognized double taxation through the pre-tax review, and the assessed tax amount has been recalculated," adding, "Excluding the corporate tax and value-added tax already paid, the actual tax paid by actor Yoo Yeon-seok is approximately 3 billion won, which has been fully paid."
The National Tax Service seems to have judged that Yoo Yeon-seok established the corporation 'Forever Entertainment' to evade taxes.
In response, the agency explained that Yoo Yeon-seok established the corporation to develop and produce YouTube content as an extension of his entertainment activities since 2015, and to engage in various activities based on this, including additional businesses and the restaurant industry. They stated, "This issue arose from the imposition of comprehensive income tax, viewing it as a target for personal income tax rather than corporate tax, and we are preparing for tax adjudication and legal procedures related to the interpretation and application of the law."
Additionally, they stated, "This matter stems from differences in the interpretation and application of tax law between the tax agent and the tax authorities, and we are currently at the stage of waiting for the tax authorities' notice after going through the pre-tax review. This is not a final and confirmed matter, and we plan to actively clarify the issues related to the interpretation and application of the law through legal procedures."
At that time, the agency emphasized, "Yoo Yeon-seok has always prioritized the faithful fulfillment of his tax obligations, and as a citizen, he will continue to thoroughly comply with relevant laws and procedures and fulfill his responsibilities."
Previously, the National Tax Service conducted a rigorous tax investigation against Yoo Yeon-seok, imposing approximately 7 billion won, including income tax. In response, Yoo Yeon-seok filed an objection and requested a pre-tax review in January. This is a procedure that a taxpayer can request if they have objections to the actions of the tax authorities.
Through the clarification process, Yoo Yeon-seok reduced the tax claim from 7 billion won to approximately 3 billion won, alleviating his grievances.
