Singer G-Dragon's music has been transmitted into space.
KAIST announced on the 10th that Professor Lee Jin-jun of the Graduate School of Culture Technology successfully completed the 'Space Music Transmission Project' with G-Dragon on the 9th.
Galaxy Corporation also announced that G-Dragon's music and a music video created using OpenAI's video generation AI were transmitted into space in connection with NASA's extraterrestrial intelligence exploration project.
This project is a convergence project that combines science and technology, art, and popular music, and is a new form of 'space cultural content' experiment that connects KAIST's advanced space technology, Professor Lee Jin-jun's media art works, and G-Dragon's voice and music (Home Sweet Home).
This is evaluated as an artistic experiment that goes beyond a simple musical attempt to permanently preserve human culture in space and attempt communication with other civilizations.
The music was transmitted using the antenna of the next-generation small satellite No. 2, which was launched aboard the Nuri rocket in May 2023.
In this regard, G-Dragon expressed, “If the emotions of someone living on Earth can wander in space and then touch someone else's heart again, that could be a deep comfort that reaches very far.”
This transmission is linked to NASA's 'Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)' project. SETI is a historical project that transmitted the music of the British rock band The Beatles and American rapper Missy Elliott into space, and G-Dragon's space music transmission project is the first SETI project in South Korea.
Additionally, Professor Lee Jin-jun created a media art piece called 'Iris' that combines sound with generative AI technology based on G-Dragon's iris images.
Galaxy Corporation signed an MOU with KAIST last year to promote the global spread of K-pop and has continuously appealed to lead innovation in the AI entertainment technology industry through collaboration with G-Dragon. G-Dragon is currently serving as a visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST.
