KREATION Music Rights (KMR), a music publishing subsidiary of SM Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as 'SM'), officially announced the appointment of Huh Young-a as CEO during its shareholders' meeting in March.
Newly appointed CEO Huh Young-a has served as the representative of Sony Music Publishing's Korean branch and has worked as a music copyright expert at organizations such as the Korean Music Copyright Association, Netflix, and Walt Disney Company Korea, possessing practical skills in music copyright management and promotion, as well as protecting the rights of music copyright holders. She is also known to have extensive knowledge and experience in the global music publishing industry.
With the appointment of CEO Huh, KMR plans to maximize the management and protection of copyright rights held by its affiliated authors and clients while promoting the use of copyrights. The company stated, "This appointment is an important step for KMR to grow into a publishing company worthy of K-pop and SM's reputation and to leap forward as a leading company in the Asian publishing market."
CEO Huh stated, "KMR is the company that has aggressively expanded its business in the domestic music publishing industry," and added, "In the short term, we plan to improve the publishing management system to enhance trust among copyright holders and clients, while in the medium to long term, we will establish and implement creative strategies suitable for local markets around the world."
A company representative said, "As CEO Huh is a veteran in the music publishing industry with 25 years of experience on the global stage, we expect her to establish concrete strategies for entering the global market and make accurate and swift decisions."
Meanwhile, since its establishment in September 2023, KMR has rapidly expanded its presence in the domestic and international music publishing market by signing publishing contracts with over 200 authors through M&A and the establishment of KMR's European subsidiary in just about a year and a half.
