On March 3, the 52nd anniversary of its establishment, KBS will present a broadcasting program that diversely applies artificial intelligence (AI) technology to viewers.
On the 28th, KBS announced the experimental introduction of an AI anchor on its radio broadcasting channel, KBS Hanminjok Broadcasting. Accordingly, an AI anchor trained on the voice of KBS announcer Kim Hee-soo will host the 'Hanminjok 16 o'clock News' broadcast at 4 PM on March 3.
Starting with this AI anchor trial broadcast, KBS is also pursuing plans to provide free universal services to viewers, such as 'AI Standard Korean Pronunciation Service' and 'AI Commentary Broadcast for the Visually Impaired.'
From 7:20 AM to 8:57 AM on March 3, AI technology will be applied to video shooting, editing, and broadcasting of the visible radio segment of 'Intensive Current Affairs' aired on KBS 1 Radio. A camera equipped with KBS's self-developed AI device 'Vertigo' will autonomously recognize and capture the speaker, and will be responsible for selecting and editing the captured footage for broadcasting.
This broadcast will introduce an AI-PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera system that can recognize participants and move the camera up and down as well as left and right, which is expected to reduce the workload of video production and enhance production efficiency.
A preview of the AI animation 'Legend of the Homeland - Gumiho,' set to air on Children's Day, May 5, will be broadcast starting March 3. The 'Legend of the Homeland - Gumiho' episode is a reimagining of the representative K-horror content 'Legend of the Homeland,' which unfolds Korean folktales and legends into a TV drama, now transformed into animation with AI technology applied in character design, animation generation, and voice synthesis.
There will also be opportunities for viewers to directly experience broadcasting AI technology. Throughout March, KBS will operate an AI anchor experience space at the KBS headquarters viewer plaza. Viewers will be able to interact with the AI anchor developed based on KBS anchors and experience having the AI anchor read news articles written by viewers, aiming to stimulate interest in AI technology among the audience.
KBS stated, "In the future, we plan to utilize AI technology across all broadcasting programs to maximize creative content production and production efficiency."
