NCT Doyoung has successfully wrapped up the Seoul performance of ‘The Man Who Laughs’.
Doyoung played the role of Gwynplaine, a character with a horrific face but pure heart, in the musical adaptation of the novel of the same name by French author Victor Hugo. He drew attention for his dense portrayal of a wide range of emotions including excitement, confusion, fear, and sadness.
From the very first performance, Doyoung received praise for becoming ‘Gwynplaine himself’ with his dynamic expressiveness, outstanding vocal ability, and his unique interpretation that captured the innocence of a boy. On the final stage held in Seoul on the 25th, he delivered an explosive performance that maximized the emotional depth of the play, earning standing ovations from the audience.
Moreover, Doyoung's final performance that day not only sold out immediately upon ticket release but also saw additional seats opened on the day of the performance, highlighting its immense popularity.
As he concluded the performance, Doyoung expressed, “It was truly a gift-like time. I learned and grew a lot through Gwynplaine and ‘The Man Who Laughs’. I would like to thank the actors, staff, and orchestra who gifted me this time. Most importantly, thanks to the audience who came to the theater and sent their support and love, I was able to finish well. I think I will never forget this for the rest of my life.”
Having actively participated in various fields such as music, entertainment, MCing, and acting, Doyoung has now firmly established his presence as a lead in musical works, raising expectations for what new forms he will present in the future.
After successfully concluding the Seoul performance of ‘The Man Who Laughs’, Doyoung is set to meet audiences in Daegu, Seongnam, and Busan.
