The Lee Jun-hyuk craze has extended to Taiwan. Lee Jun-hyuk received a warm welcome during his visit to Taiwan for the promotion of ‘My Perfect Secretary’.
Lee Jun-hyuk's drama ‘My Perfect Secretary’ sparked a strong response in Taiwan, leading to an invitation for the lead actor, Lee Jun-hyuk. He visited Taiwan on the 18th and conducted local promotions on the 19th. ‘My Perfect Secretary’ premiered on January 3rd on Hami Video, an OTT platform under Taiwan's largest telecommunications company, Chunghwa Telecom, and all episodes were released on February 14th. It maintained the number one content position for seven weeks from the first week of airing until the end. The drama achieved the highest ratings among all content in the drama category on Hami Video, garnering enthusiastic responses and significant success.
Upon his arrival in Taiwan, Lee Jun-hyuk received a warm welcome. Arriving at Taoyuan International Airport to a crowd of over 500 fans, he responded to their greetings with friendly gestures and expressed his gratitude for the heartfelt welcome. On that day, fans wore clothes made to look like ‘pizza’, which is one of Lee Jun-hyuk's favorite foods, and cheered with large banners and placards. Some fans even brought dogs that closely resembled Lee Jun-hyuk's pet, ‘Popcorn’, drawing attention. The enthusiastic reactions at the scene heated up real-time news coverage and were also reported in local newspapers the following day.
On the 19th, an official press conference held at the Taipei Marriott Hotel saw the attendance of over 100 media outlets, showcasing the explosive local interest. During the press conference, Lee Jun-hyuk, who gained the affectionate nickname ‘National Husband’ through the drama ‘My Perfect Secretary’, shared heartfelt stories about his work, bringing the emotions of the drama closer to the audience. When asked by the host, he delivered the line “What would you like me to remember?” from the drama, eliciting cheers from the audience. He also mentioned a scene where he locks eyes with Ji-yoon (played by Han Ji-min) before confessing his feelings, saying, “When two people look into each other's eyes, I believe everything is conveyed without needing to speak. I really liked that poignant feeling of knowing in your heart but not being able to express it.”
Additionally, when asked about individuals he would like to work with in Taiwan, Lee Jun-hyuk mentioned director Ang Lee, saying, “I remember gaining strength from watching ‘Life of Pi’ when I was going through a tough time. I believe that, like that work, we can have a positive influence on people through culture. The fact that I came here through my work after gaining so much energy and strength from Ang Lee's films feels like a miraculous moment, just like that movie.”
Concluding the press conference, Lee Jun-hyuk expressed, “Receiving such warm attention from others is not an easy thing, and I am very grateful that so many people have created good memories for me. I feel truly happy to share memories with you all as you love the work we put so much effort into.”
After completing the Taiwan promotion, Lee Jun-hyuk is currently busy filming his next project, the Netflix series ‘Lady Dua’. ‘Lady Dua’ tells the story of a woman, Sarah Kim (played by Shin Hye-sun), whose life is entirely fake, and a man, Mu-gyeong (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), who tracks her hidden desires. This drama marks the reunion of Shin Hye-sun and Lee Jun-hyuk after eight years since ‘Stranger’, generating great anticipation among viewers.
