Comedian Jang Do-yeon expressed her anger over negative comments saying she is “suffering from a hosting disease.”

On that day, the Calm Man mentioned about his personal YouTube channel, saying, “I have to become shameless to keep going. Otherwise, there are 100 different opinions. I keep hearing things like ‘This isn’t it,’ and ‘It was more fun back in the day.’ I think the past me no longer exists. Don’t I gradually change too? If you want the fun from the past, you can just watch the old videos.” Jang Do-yeon admired, “That’s such a great lesson.”
The Calm Man asked Jang Do-yeon, “Have you ever heard such comments?” Jang Do-yeon replied, “They say, ‘She’s suffering from a hosting disease, so it’s really not fun.’ If I’m assigned a role to host, shouldn’t I be hosting instead of having a hosting disease?” She expressed her frustration. She continued, “If I’m supposed to host and suddenly get a skit disease, would they use me?” raising her voice.
After watching Jang Do-yeon’s slapstick comedy, the Calm Man repeatedly said, “It’s fun,” and added, “You’re a different person from two minutes ago. Earlier, you felt like you came to work, but now you’re the Jang Do-yeon in a private setting,” which made everyone laugh.
As Jang Do-yeon mentioned that she checks community reactions, the Calm Man said, “Since I know they keep talking about me in the community, I can’t help but look. So, I installed a community blocking app. The community is always having emergency meetings like ‘We need to save the Calm Man’ and ‘Is the Calm Man okay like this?’ They keep looking for reasons for what they don’t like.”
He continued, “When I see that, I unknowingly get gaslighted. For example, when I see a post saying, ‘The Calm Man shouldn’t do this,’ from that moment, it becomes conscious to me. Even if I do the opposite, I’m still influenced. It’s like being caught in a gaslighting trap.”
He then advised, “Even if it’s the right feedback, I think it’s better not to look at it. It’s better to do what I want and fail spectacularly.”
Hearing this, Jang Do-yeon said, “I found the answer to what I’m saying. Didn’t I say, ‘If I fail, it’s my responsibility’? I think I keep reading the community because I don’t want to fail.” The Calm Man replied, “I felt the same way. When I thought about why, I realized it’s because I want to be a cool person. If you have the courage to be an ugly person, it’s okay. You just have to think selfishly.”
When Jang Do-yeon said, “I don’t have the courage. What if everyone leaves me?” the Calm Man responded, “There are many things that can soothe loneliness even if there are no people.”
