“A bright and sunny day will return.”

The beloved trot singer Song Dae-kwan, who sang of hope, has passed away. The late singer, who led the trot music scene along with the Trot Four Kings, and broadcasts featuring him during his lifetime have joined in the wave of tributes.

On the 7th, the late Song Dae-kwan's agency, Star Lineup Entertainment, announced, “Song Dae-kwan passed away from a heart attack around 10 AM.”

According to sources, the late Song Dae-kwan had been hospitalized the day before due to poor condition but suddenly passed away that morning. It was reported that he had no underlying health conditions.

Above all, it is particularly heartbreaking as he was scheduled to appear on KBS’s ‘Gayo Stage’ next week.

Song Dae-kwan debuted in 1967 with “A Kind Uncle.” After a period of obscurity, he reached his peak in 1975 with the hit “A Sunny Day.” He left behind numerous hit songs such as “One Ticket,” “Four Beats,” and “Popular Song.” He was especially known as one of the 'Trot Four Kings' alongside Tae Jin-ah, Seol Woon-do, and the late Hyun-cheol.

Upon hearing the news of Song Dae-kwan's passing, the Trot Four Kings, Tae Jin-ah and Seol Woon-do, expressed their sorrow.

Tae Jin-ah told Newsen, “He was like an older brother to me, having spent more time together than with my own family,” adding, “It’s so painful that just after losing Hyun-cheol, now (Song Dae-kwan) has also left us. I hope he rests in peace. He was a star-like figure in the music industry.”

Seol Woon-do also expressed his feelings in a call with News1, saying, “Not long ago, we sent off Teacher Hyun-cheol, and now Senior Song Dae-kwan has also left us. It’s sad to hear such news in succession when there are not many seniors left.”

He added, “He was a very dignified and earnest person. Yet, he had a strong desire to perform and worked hard. He always gave his best and had a dignified presence as a star, earning my respect,” and stated, “Even after he’s gone, the music he left behind will continue to live on in the hearts of the public.”

KBS2’s ‘Immortal Songs’ is set to air a tribute video for Song Dae-kwan on the 8th. KBS1’s ‘National Singing Contest’ will also join in the tribute. The late Song Dae-kwan’s performances recorded in October last year will be broadcast on the 16th for the ‘Dangjin City’ episode and on March 2 for the ‘Yeongdeungpo District’ episode.

The late singer's funeral will be held at the Seoul National University Hospital funeral hall.
