Trot singer Jang Tae-hee has showcased her presence as an ‘art-tainer’.
Recently, Jang Tae-hee participated in the planning of the ‘2024 Jang Kyung-hwi Solo Exhibition: Mysterious Flow’ held at the Museum of Sungsin Women's University in Seoul.
Through this exhibition, Jang Tae-hee expressed her artistic philosophy and passion, creating a meaningful platform that connects the public with art. Believing that ‘art is a powerful tool that provides comfort and inspiration to people,’ she actively participated in the planning of this exhibition to ensure that the audience could empathize with the works and find joy in art.
Jang Tae-hee stated, “Art should not just be for appreciation; it should be a bridge that connects people. This exhibition was another challenge for me and an opportunity to show the expansion of what I can do as an ‘art-tainer’.”
Jang Tae-hee is a disciple of Lee Ho-yeon, a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 57, and transitioned to singing after winning the Gyeonggi Governor's Award at the 2009 Gyeonggi Minyo Competition. She debuted with her first album ‘Modern Trot’ in 2010 and has been actively releasing songs such as ‘Play Trot’, ‘Han O Baek Nyeon’, ‘Heung’, ‘Memories of Soyagok’, ‘Hometown Oppa’, and ‘Busan Girl’.
In particular, she has been recognized for her talent by winning the New Artist Award at MBC’s ‘Gayo Best Daegyeon’, the Female Rookie Award at the 15th Korea Traditional Music Awards, and the Female Excellence Award at the 16th Korea Traditional Music Awards. In 2021, she gained attention as a ‘Trot Diva’ by appearing on TV CHOSUN’s ‘Miss Trot 2’.
Thus, Jang Tae-hee continues to expand her artistic sensibility, which started in music, into various fields, taking on new challenges. She is expected to solidify her presence as an ‘art-tainer’ who shares artistic communication with the public and creates new values, rather than simply remaining a singer who performs on stage.
