The entertainment show 'My Name is Gabriel' by PD Kim Tae-ho, which failed to exceed 1% in viewership ratings, is making its way into the global market.
TEO's entertainment show 'My Name is Gabriel' (directed by Kim Tae-ho and Lee Tae-kyung) has signed a contract with the French global format company Banijay for format sales and distribution. Banijay will hold exclusive global distribution rights for the format of 'My Name is Gabriel'.
Released in June, 'My Name is Gabriel' featured top stars such as Park Bo-gum, Ji Chang-wook, Dex, Yeom Hye-ran, and Park Myung-soo during its domestic airing, yet it consistently struggled to break out of the 1% viewership range. Although they cast BLACKPINK member Jennie in hopes of a final rebound, it did not yield significant results.
It is reported that this contract was finalized due to Banijay's proactive proposal even before the program aired. This marks TEO's first case of self-developed format export. Through this contract, TEO is expected to lay the groundwork for entering the global market and further enhance its IP (intellectual property) competitiveness.
'My Name is Gabriel' recently participated in the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), the largest content event in Asia, garnering significant interest in the Asian region.
Helen Greatorex, Banijay's Head of Format Acquisitions, stated, "'My Name is Gabriel' is an innovative reality format that allows celebrities to strip away their identities and experience the lives of others before returning to reality. Thanks to the rediscovery of celebrities and its cultural universality, this format is suitable for the global market and will appeal to local buyers."
Banijay Entertainment is a global broadcasting and video content production company with over 130 production companies across 21 regions. In the past 23 years, it has produced over 70 dramas and 200 entertainment programs, creating 33 formats in more than three regions, and was selected as K7's Distributor of the Year. Among Korean content, 'The Genius' was exported to the UK's largest commercial broadcaster ITV, reaching audiences worldwide.
