Actress Song Ok-sook revealed her own original story of "acting while chewing live octopus," which predates the famous scene in the movie 'Oldboy.'
On the 3rd, Song Ok-sook appeared on the YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life' and reminisced about her role in the 1984 MBC drama 'Bestseller Theater: The Story of a Woman Like an Octopus.'
She confidently stated, "The scene of chewing octopus became a huge topic. Even young people recognized it," adding, "In fact, I can say I was the original before Choi Min-sik's scene of eating live octopus in the 2003 film 'Oldboy.'

At that time, Song Ok-sook played the role of 'Soon-han-nyeo,' a woman who had lost her mind, portraying the intense image of a woman living by chewing whole octopuses on a rocky beach. "When the director was disappointed and asked, 'Is this all you can do?' I shot it realistically with all my might, and it became a hit," she added about the fierce filming environment.
She reflected, "That work led me to frequently take on strong and energetic female characters," and "I was able to carve out my own space in the drama flow that was focused on melodrama."
In particular, 'The Story of a Woman Like an Octopus' is a drama adapted from the work of novelist Han Seung-won (the father of Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang), and Song Ok-sook emphasized, "It was a turning point that changed my acting life."
Song Ok-sook's live octopus acting is still referred to as a legendary scene, and it later became the reason she earned the nickname 'the woman like an octopus.'
