TV CHOSUN's weekend miniseries 'Confidence Man KR' featuring Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk successfully avenged the final villain Kim Tae-hoon, wrapping up with a refreshing finale.
The final episode of TV CHOSUN's weekend miniseries 'Confidence Man KR' (written by Hong Seung-hyun and Kim Da-hye, directed by Nam Ki-hoon, produced by TMI Group), aired on the 12th, delivering a thrilling conclusion that peaked in excitement. According to Flix Patrol, it ranked 8th in Amazon Prime TV shows worldwide and 3rd in Coupang Play's top 10 popular dramas, proving the strength of 'Confidence Man KR' as a global OTT powerhouse until the end.
Initially, Yoon I-rang (played by Park Min-young) was shocked to see Myung Gu-ho (played by Joo Jong-hyuk) and was furious at him for going his own way, but she kept a low profile while staying in the goshiwon that James (played by Park Hee-soon) saved her in until she gained trust from Kang Yo-seob (played by Kim Tae-hoon).
Later, when Abdullah expressed his desire to sign a contract after seeing the architectural model sent by Kang Yo-seob, he was pleased, but fell into deep thought when Abdullah asked to shorten the construction period by three years. However, just in time, Yoon I-rang provided a solution to reduce the construction deadline, and they moved forward to finalize the contract.
At the contract meeting attended by Kang Yo-seob, Yoon I-rang, Myung Gu-ho, and Inira (played by Jeong Ae-yeon), James appeared transformed into Salvador Rios, a third-generation Mexican-Korean with Bruno Mars visuals. While a surprised Myung Gu-ho was spitting water, James declared, “I want one thing! 15 million dollars!” and threatened Kang Yo-seob to prepare a deposit of 20 billion won within a week, leaving him flustered.
As everyone was in a bind, Myung Gu-ho received a call from Jo Hwa-jang (played by Kang Nam-gil) saying it was possible, which reassured Kang Yo-seob. After everyone left, Myung Gu-ho and Yoon I-rang raised their voices, saying that if Jo Hwa-jang provided the money, their plan would fall apart. Additionally, Yoon I-rang and Myung Gu-ho confronted each other, appealing for revenge against Kang Yo-seob, who was responsible for their respective traumas of kidnapping and the death of their father.
Meanwhile, having secretly overheard their conversation and figured out their identities, Kang Yo-seob lured Yoon I-rang, James, and Myung Gu-ho to a villa under the pretext of a dinner party, using the masked men who barged in to force the three to kneel before him.
Moreover, Kang Yo-seob provoked Myung Gu-ho by saying, “Your father died because of you,” and after snatching a gun from a masked man, he threatened Myung Gu-ho with the lives of Yoon I-rang and James. In an instant, Kang Yo-seob took Myung Gu-ho's gun and shot him, creating a bloodbath.
At that moment, Kang Yo-seob received a call from the secretary of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that Abdullah had arrived, and he headed to the meeting place, leaving the three behind. In a moment of pride, Kang Yo-seob said, “This moment has come in my life,” while the masked Abdullah presented him with a box. Upon seeing the chessboard and the fallen king inside the box, Kang Yo-seob froze as James revealed his face, along with Yoon I-rang, who had covered her face with traditional clothing, and they taunted him, “How does it feel to be on the receiving end?”
Afterward, Yoon I-rang revealed that everything was a plan to deceive Kang Yo-seob. Yoon I-rang, James, and Myung Gu-ho pretended to be disbanded for the operation, and when they arrived at the villa, they worked together with the crew members who had subdued the masked men, executing their plan as intended.
Additionally, the video call with Abdullah was manipulated using deepfake and deep voice technology, and it was revealed that they had used the secretary of the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, who was in an affair with Go Sang-hee (played by Han Geu-ru), to manipulate Minister Yoo, which left Kang Yo-seob flustered.
Furthermore, while tormenting the three at the villa, James sent a confession video he had recorded to the head of the criminal department during the Yoon I-rang kidnapping case, leading to Kang Yo-seob's urgent arrest. After learning that he had left for Germany for two years right after the incident, and that the statute of limitations was still in effect, Kang Yo-seob fled after firing a fake gun in vain.
While fleeing in a car from pursuing police, Kang Yo-seob was tormented by visions alternating between young Yoon I-rang (played by Ki So-yu) and the current Yoon I-rang, driving him into madness. In an attempt to avoid a truck, he swerved the steering wheel and fell off a bridge, going missing.
Time passed, and while watching the news about Kang Yo-seob, Yoon I-rang turned off the TV and celebrated their successful revenge with 'Team Confidence Man' James, Myung Gu-ho, and the crew. Myung Gu-ho lamented, “Even if we work this hard, these trashy guys don’t disappear,” to which James agreed, saying, “That’s why people like us are needed,” and Yoon I-rang shouted, “So, shall we get started?”
Everyone shouted, “Let’s get it!” and enjoyed a victory shot, while Yoon I-rang declared, “The conmen will return!” before stepping forward with James and Myung Gu-ho, completing a fiery ending with the 'new operation deployment'.
On the 12th, 'Confidence Man KR' recorded 8th place in Amazon Prime TV shows worldwide according to Flix Patrol, proving its strength by never missing a spot in the Amazon Prime TV shows worldwide TOP10 chart after the release of episodes 1 and 2, breaking down borders with 'Conman-style' fun.
In particular, 'Confidence Man KR' consistently ranked TOP1 in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, establishing itself as an absolute powerhouse in Southeast Asia, delivering catharsis through a refreshing narrative that transcends culture and borders.
Moreover, by incorporating a mysterious past narrative that provides coherence, and episodes emphasizing the chemistry of the protagonists, 'Confidence Man KR' heralded a fresh evolution of K-caper comedies that deliver both laughter and emotion.
The production team stated, “We hope that during the moments of watching the drama, you had a precious experience where all your stress flew away. We wish for 'Confidence Man KR' to be remembered as a feel-good drama whenever it comes to mind.”
