Actors Park Eun-hye, Ryu Jin, Hwang Dong-joo, and Gong Jeong-hwan will appear in ‘Mari and the Unusual Dads’.

The new daily drama ‘Mari and the Unusual Dads’ (directed by Seo Yong-soo, written by Kim Hong-joo), which is set to premiere in October on KBS1, depicts the birth of an unusual family that is thicker than blood and more tenacious than sperm.

‘Mari and the Unusual Dads’ is a collaboration between director Seo Yong-soo, who has been recognized for his delicate directing skills in works such as the drama special 2023 ‘Do-hyun's Confession’, ‘Overlap Knife, Knife’, weekend drama ‘Iron Family’, and historical drama ‘Goryeo-Khitan War’, and writer Kim Hong-joo, who has showcased his smooth writing in human drama genres like ‘Even if I Hate You, I Love You’ and ‘High School Alumni’.

Today (2nd), the production team of ‘Mari and the Unusual Dads’ announced the casting news of Park Eun-hye (as Joo Si-ra), Ryu Jin (as Lee Poong-joo), Hwang Dong-joo (as Kang Min-bo), and Gong Jeong-hwan (as Jin Gi-sik), following Ha Seung-ri (as Kang Mari) and Hyun-woo (as Lee Kang-se).

Park Eun-hye takes on the role of Joo Si-ra, Mari's troublemaking mother. Si-ra, who didn't want to lose her first love Min-bo whom she met at a meeting, got married right after graduating high school. She dreamed of having a harmonious family after giving birth to a child, but a secret related to Mari's birth was revealed, leading to a divorce. Now, while living with her grown daughter Mari and her mother Yoon Soon-ae, Si-ra's life begins to face waves with the sudden return of Min-bo. Viewers are curious about what charm Park Eun-hye will showcase, having made her presence felt in dramas like ‘Alchemy of Souls’, ‘Lovers of the Red Sky’, and ‘Double Trouble’.

Ryu Jin plays Lee Poong-joo, the logical and rational doctor who is Kang-se's older brother. After living abroad, he returns to Korea for the first time in 15 years at the request of his mentor. However, he becomes entangled with Mari's family when his father, who has conflicts over his marriage issues, rents a place in Mari's neighborhood. Expectations are high for Ryu Jin's performance, who has shown gentle visuals and diverse acting skills in dramas like ‘Oh! Samkwang Villa!’, ‘Even If I’m Deceived, It’s a Dream’, and ‘The Real One Has Appeared!’.

Hwang Dong-joo appears as Kang Min-bo, Si-ra's ex-husband and a famous painter. He married Si-ra at a young age, despite having physical complexes, as she didn't mind them. He was overjoyed when Si-ra gave birth to Mari, thinking she was his daughter, but divorced after learning the hidden truth. After working as a painter in New York, he returns to Korea to take on the role of a father when he sees his daughter Mari searching for him on social media, becoming the center of attention. Interest is focused on what presence Hwang Dong-joo, who has reigned as the prince of daily dramas with works like ‘Scandal’, ‘Golden Mask’, and ‘Red Shoes’, will show.

Gong Jeong-hwan appears as Jin Gi-sik, Mari's uncle and the head of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Um Hospital. Ambitious, he used a secret he learned while attending medical school to marry Um Gi-bun's daughter. While his life rival Poong-joo was abroad, he thrived, but when Poong-joo suddenly returns, Gi-sik begins to feel an unprecedented sense of crisis. Attention is drawn to Gong Jeong-hwan's unique acting transformation, who has captivated viewers with his strong performances in ‘Eagle Five’, ‘Death to Snow White - Black Out’, and ‘Goryeo-Khitan War’.

‘Mari and the Unusual Dads’ will premiere in October as a follow-up to ‘Grab the Great Luck’.
