The con game 'Confidence Man KR' featuring Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk promises thrilling catharsis for viewers.
On the afternoon of the 1st, a production presentation for TV Chosun's new drama 'Confidence Man KR' was held at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam, Seoul. Director Nam Ki-hoon and actors Park Min-young, Park Hee-soon, and Joo Jong-hyuk attended.
'Confidence Man KR' is a con game where three con artists with versatile skills seek revenge against the villains of this era. It promises an exciting story that cleverly exploits the flaws in the social system and introduces a 'K-caper' that playfully twists the conventions of the existing crime genre.
Director Nam Ki-hoon, known for 'Casino', 'Kiss Sixth Sense', 'Oh My Baby', and 'Voice 3', is at the helm.
Director Nam Ki-hoon stated, “There is a Japanese original, and we adapted it for Korea. The trio, centered around Park Min-young, solves cases while unraveling mysterious pasts.”
When asked about the differentiating factors, he replied, “We focused on the reasons behind the cons. I wanted to make Park Min-young's character more Korean.”
Nam added, “I always wanted to work with Park Min-young, and now that I have, I understand why she is so successful. She brings a smart new structure. Park Hee-soon is very generous and accommodating on set, and Joo Jong-hyuk is really kind. If these three hadn’t participated, we wouldn’t have been able to finish.”
Park Min-young plays the role of the con artist leader Yoon Yi-rang, who has an IQ of 165 and is a genius in the top 1%. Park Hee-soon plays James, the team's spiritual support, while Joo Jong-hyuk takes on the role of the youngest member, Myung Gu-ho.
Regarding her role as Yi-rang, Park Min-young said, “She is a leader who assigns tasks to team members with her high IQ among con artists. She has some sociopathic traits, but she also has a past, making it a role that any actor would envy. It was challenging to transform, but I had fun filming.”
When asked if she was confident in the success of the project following her previous work 'Marry My Husband', Park Min-young replied, “No one can predict success.”
She continued, “Our work is the first Korean original on Amazon Prime. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed. I wanted roles that were dynamic and allowed for physicality, and this time I can be active and lead. In 'Marry My Husband', I was mostly on the receiving end, but this time I get to pay back, which is appealing. I filmed with wonderful actors and staff while smiling.”
Park Hee-soon, who recently returned from the Venice International Film Festival with Park Chan-wook's new film 'There's No Way', made witty comments that brought laughter to the event.
Park Hee-soon joked, “I ran here right after arriving at the airport from Venice. Is this what an idol's life is like?”
He stated, “I can't help it. I need to focus. I will concentrate on 'Confidence Man'. I am the eldest of the trio. I created a fun project with these guys. Please look forward to it.”
Additionally, Park Hee-soon highlighted the viewing points of 'Confidence Man', saying, “The ensemble of the three actors will be a spectacle. Their transformations and sub-characters will also be points of interest. It is optimized for meme generation.”
Joo Jong-hyuk described his role as Gu-ho, saying, “I believe I am always at the center, but in certain situations, I am the only one who doesn’t know and always gets taken advantage of. I have a strong clumsy charm.”
Joo Jong-hyuk shared his experience of wearing various costumes in this project, saying, “One memorable moment was when I dressed as a woman, and in the actual drama, I am seen as a woman. I realized how long the makeup process takes. There were many uncomfortable aspects. I wondered how to walk and how to adjust my voice.”
He continued, “It took about two and a half hours to do the makeup. Externally, wearing heels made me reach 190cm. I have a prominent Adam's apple, which couldn’t be hidden,” causing laughter.
Joo Jong-hyuk expressed, “I hope 'Confidence Man' becomes a comfort food for viewers,” adding, “I hope our cheerful energy is conveyed.”
Director Nam Ki-hoon concluded, “I hope the project does well and becomes a series. It has a variety of engaging stories and endless potential for expansion. Personally, I would love for it to be serialized. I ask for your interest.”
'Confidence Man KR' will air on the 6th at 9:10 PM.
