The identities of the participants in the ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ Seoul Music Festival have been fully revealed.
In the episode aired on the afternoon of the 23rd, the faces of the participants from the 1980s Seoul Music Festival were unveiled.
During the broadcast, the first stage was performed by Gongjak Sangga, Dong-A Planning, and Jongno Bookstore, who passed the preliminary round. The three revealed their faces while passionately singing Jo Deok-bae's ‘If You Enter My Heart’.
As Park Myung-soo, Ha Dong-kyun, and Wooz appeared in order, the members were ecstatic. Wooz, who surprised Yoo Jae-suk by appearing, said, “I filmed the video the day after I was discharged from the military,” adding, “I think the ‘Drauzing’ reverse run was lucky, and I’ve been busy.”
Park Myung-soo confessed his fan sentiment, saying, “I really like Ha Dong-kyun, and Wooz is doing well, so it was great to sing with them.”
Ha Dong-kyun mentioned, “I don’t usually participate in programs where the MCs wear wigs,” and added, “I really like 80s songs, and I was born in 1980, so I really wanted to do this.”
In the next stage, participants Namsan Tower, Jamsu Bridge, and Nakwon Shopping Center sang ‘Friend’. They then revealed their faces. Namsan Tower was revealed to be Park Young-kyu, Jamsu Bridge was Choi Jung-hoon, and Nakwon Shopping Center was Jung Sung-hwa.
Yoo Jae-suk explained the reason for Park Young-kyu's acceptance, saying, “I was worried about how to handle Park Young-kyu, but he had passion, so I accepted him with ‘Life is one scene, one cut!’” The hero of the musical world, Jung Sung-hwa, said, “I thought ‘The Stars Are Falling’ was a 90s song,” and added, “I grew up listening to 80s songs. I want to sing songs I know well. I practiced a lot, but I was really nervous when I actually sang.”
Choi Jung-hoon, who received high praise from the members, said, “I was eliminated last time because I sang too hard during the MSG Wannabe audition. This time, I practiced with an emotional focus in line with the 80s theme,” and expressed that he enjoyed being on stage with Park Young-kyu and Jung Sung-hwa.
The third stage featured female participants. Midopa Department Store, Sangbong Terminal, and New York Bakery presented ‘I Still Don’t Know Love’. The identities of the participants who amazed the members were Lala, Solar, and IVE's Liz.
Following that, Olympic Road, the 3rd Han River Bridge, and Marronnier Park delivered an explosive performance of ‘Regret’. When Lee Yong-jin, Choi Yu-ri, and Lee Jeok revealed their faces, the other participants appeared to be in love.
When Yoo Jae-suk asked, “The singer Lee Jeok is participating here, and the viewers were surprised,” Lee Jeok replied, “I don’t usually get the chance to sing 80s songs.” He continued, “I participated in a music festival with Haha and Yoo Jae-suk 14 years ago. I’m happy to be back as a participant after judging at other music festivals for a long time.”
When Yoo Jae-suk said he thought Lee Yu-ri was first as soon as he heard her voice, Choi Yu-ri shyly smiled and said, “I’m so nervous...” She also expressed her joy, saying, “I was so happy that the response was hotter than I expected, and I was so glad that PD Yoo reacted positively.”
Yoo Jae-suk praised Lee Yong-jin, saying, “It’s not easy to stand out among such talented individuals, but Lee Yong-jin sang with such poise. Everything, from the outfit to the tone and manner, was in harmony with ‘Regret’.” In response, Lee Yong-jin shared, “This time, I wanted to be serious. I wanted to take out a lot of the humor, and honestly, there were many moments I wanted to jump in during all this talk, but I held back.”
The final stage featured Sundol-i, Gureongsoe Boy, and Pimatgol. The three participants showcased a heartfelt performance of ‘Watercolor on a Rainy Day’. The participants were very surprised to learn that it was Dean, Lee Jun-young, and Yoon Do-hyun.
Dean expressed his frustration, saying, “My left jaw didn’t collapse, but it went to the right angle. And when we were filming the VCR, they told me to lie down. I asked how I could sing lying down, and they said everyone else would! But when I watched the broadcast, I was the only one lying down. And if you look at the shadow, it’s just me.”
In response, Yoo Jae-suk said, “Many people said you sang well after seeing you lying down. And the unexpected successful candidate chosen by the production team is Dean. To be honest, he thought he would be eliminated. There were many strong candidates, but he passed the preliminary round with ease,” expressing his admiration.
MBC’s ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ airs every Saturday at 6:30 PM.
