Actress Kim Tae-hee's Hollywood debut work ‘Butterfly’ has completed its first broadcast in Korea. Kim Tae-hee's fluent English acting, which garnered attention at the New York premiere event, shone in the drama as well.
The Amazon Prime Video series ‘Butterfly’ premiered on tvN on the 22nd.
The opening scene captivated viewers with David Jung (played by Daniel Dae Kim) struggling to meet his daughter Rebecca (played by Reina Hardisty), who is involved with a secret organization called Cadis, along with spectacular action sequences.
In the midst of this, David Jung's Korean wife Eun-joo (played by Kim Tae-hee) also appeared. Eun-joo expressed her anger to David, who called to say he would continue trying to get their daughter back despite breaking their promise, saying, “You promised just once,” and warned, “Cadis will kill us.”

This scene was part of the first filming that Kim Tae-hee mentioned during the press conference. She revealed, “It was a scene that had to be done entirely in English, and I practiced so hard that it was really difficult when they changed one or two sentences on set. If it had been in Korean, it wouldn’t have been that hard, but since I had memorized everything, it was really tough.”
She added, “Knowing that I can’t achieve perfect pronunciation or intonation since English is not my mother tongue, I tried to stay true to Eun-joo's emotions in that moment, focusing on the feelings rather than the pronunciation.”

As Kim Tae-hee mentioned, this scene showed Eun-joo's feelings of frustration and anger, but ultimately her understanding of her husband, enhancing the immersion in the drama. The English acting that she was worried about blended in well without feeling awkward.
During the press conference, Kim Tae-hee said, “I thought there would be a lot of post-production work because I acted in English, but there was hardly any,” and her co-star Kim Ji-hoon remarked, “It seems like she did well. I had a lot.”
In response, Daniel Dae Kim joked, “Not everyone graduated from Seoul National University like Kim Tae-hee,” which drew laughter.
Although it is a supporting role rather than a leading one that she has done so far, Kim Tae-hee expressed her desire to play Eun-joo. Despite her brief appearance, she left a strong impact, raising expectations for her future appearances in the remaining episodes.
Meanwhile, ‘Butterfly’ can be watched every Saturday and Sunday at 10:40 PM on tvN and Tving.
