Super Junior's Kim Heechul expressed his gratitude towards former SM Entertainment general producer Lee Soo-man.
On the 20th, MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ featured guests Lee Sedol, Kim Heechul, Calm Man, and Napoli Mafia.
On this day, Kim Heechul named former SM Entertainment general producer Lee Soo-man as his benefactor for his debut. Kim Heechul said, “If it weren’t for Teacher Lee Soo-man, I wouldn’t have been able to debut. I liked rock music and went to nightclubs since I was 20. Naturally, I was put on practice suspension and wrote a reflection paper. In the reflection paper, I wrote, ‘I don’t know what I did wrong.’”
He continued, “But Teacher Lee Soo-man said, ‘Heechul will become an artist. He’s not the type to cause trouble.’ That’s how I got to debut.”
Kim Heechul recalled, “I had to be the substitute MC for ‘Inkigayo.’ At that time, I had long dyed hair, and the ‘Inkigayo’ production team said, ‘We would like you to have a neat hairstyle.’”
He added, “At that time, I was having lunch with Teacher Lee Soo-man, and I was sulking about it. Teacher Lee Soo-man asked, ‘Is there something bothering you?’ and I acted like a child.”
He then shared, “Teacher Lee Soo-man told the manager, ‘Ask the production team once. Heechul can do well even with that hairstyle. But if they still don’t like it, let’s take action.’ In the end, I hosted with that hairstyle.”
When Kim Gura expressed admiration, saying, “Where can you find someone like that?” Kim Heechul replied, “This year marks the 20th anniversary of Super Junior, so I bought an expensive wine and went to Teacher Lee Soo-man’s house to express my gratitude.” He added, “Teacher Lee Soo-man always tells me, ‘Heechul will do well.’”
