The mother of Jung Eun-hye, a writer with Down syndrome, shared her feelings during childbirth.
On the 11th, SBS's 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny' depicted the daily life of the couple Jung Eun-hye and Jo Young-nam.
On this day, Jung Eun-hye's mother recalled the past when she gave birth to her daughter with Down syndrome. She opened up, saying, "I gave birth at 26. Holding Eun-hye in my arms, I met a person with a disability for the first time."
She continued, "In the 1990s, people with disabilities did not come out into society. Most were in facilities or confined at home. So, I had never seen a person with a disability, and to see a child with Down syndrome in my arms was beyond confusion; it felt like my life had fallen into ruin. I spent my days crying."
She added, "As I kept crying, I wondered why I was always sad. I reflected on myself. Baby Eun-hye was sleeping well, and I was healthy, but the reason I was sad was the way people looked at me. So, I thought the center of the world was us. I decided to find a way to be happy with Eun-hye, thinking that such gazes were not helpful to our happiness."
Meanwhile, 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny' airs every Monday at 10:10 PM.
