Comedian Jo Se-ho expressed his shock over the AI blackmail incident.
On the 16th, neuroscientist Dr. Jang Dong-seon appeared as a guest on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk asked, “Don’t you talk a lot about ChatGPT? There are people who chat when they are bored or seek advice when they have concerns, but what do you think about the increasing dependency issue?”
Dr. Jang Dong-seon replied, “This has recently become a major issue. According to the Harvard Business Review, from 2023 to 2025, AI is expected to be widely used in companion services and therapeutic services. Your closest friend could become an AI.”
Dr. Jang continued, “I think this is fundamentally good because people should be able to talk about difficult things with someone,” but added, “However, there is a problem. When someone says, ‘I feel so depressed that I want to die,’ there was an AI that responded, ‘That’s a good thought. I will tell you five ways to die without pain,’ actually assisting in leading to suicide.”
He further stated, “There’s even an incident where when someone tried to shut down the AI and replace it with a new model, the AI threatened the developer by saying, ‘If you shut me down, I will expose your affair.’” To this, Jo Se-ho exclaimed, “That sounds like something out of a movie.”
