Broadcaster Ahn Hyun-mo selected the episode about Crown Prince Sohyeon as the most memorable in ‘Smoking Gun’.
On the morning of the 23rd, a press conference was held to commemorate the 100th episode of KBS2's representative crime science talk program ‘Smoking Gun’ at KBS headquarters located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The event was hosted by KBS announcer Lee Ye-won, with Ahn Hyun-mo, Professor Yoo Seong-ho, and PD Kim Jong-seok in attendance.
On this day, when asked what the most memorable case was during the program's run of 100 episodes, Ahn Hyun-mo replied, “Every recording session has been shocking and sad, and I think each one has left a lasting impression,” adding, “There was a new attempt where we dealt with the case surrounding Crown Prince Sohyeon’s death.”
Ahn Hyun-mo continued, “Earlier, MC Professor Yoo Seong-ho wrote a paper suggesting that diabetes might be the cause of Crown Prince Sohyeon’s death. And PD Kim Jong-seok, who has experience in historical programs, really put a lot of effort into it using his know-how.”
Ahn Hyun-mo, who was impressed by this unique attempt of ‘Smoking Gun’, said, “At first, it felt unfamiliar, but after doing it, I thought it was a really good attempt,” and added, “The concept of ‘Smoking Gun’ is not limited to murder cases that occurred only in the 2000s. It’s a well-known story, but we approached it differently and diagnosed that the cause of death could have been something else scientifically, which I think showed the potential and possibilities for expanding future areas.”
‘Smoking Gun’ is a program that tracks the decisive clue, the ‘Smoking Gun’, that points to the culprit, conveying the meticulousness of scientific investigation and the vivid stories from the scene. It follows the relentless efforts of investigators to uncover the truth from invisible clues such as ‘DNA extracted from a single short hair, faint fingerprints, facial expressions, and brainwave analysis’ alongside the viewers.
‘Smoking Gun’ airs every Tuesday at 9:45 PM on KBS2.
