Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women's University has released a multilingual video with broadcaster Lee Soo-ji to promote representative plants of Dokdo, including Seomgirincho, both domestically and internationally.

This 4-minute video was co-produced with the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation's Content Promotion Agency and is available in Korean and English, widely spreading among netizens at home and abroad.

The main content of the video details that there are a total of 56 species of plants native to Dokdo, with a special focus on 'Seomgirincho', which only exists on Ulleungdo and Dokdo in the world.

It also reminds viewers that 100 years ago, during Japanese colonial rule, the potential value of Dokdo's native plants was targeted, and their scientific names were registered with Japanese names to secure research priority, emphasizing the need for efforts to reclaim this.

Professor Seo stated, “This is the fourth video following the symbolic animals and plants of Dokdo, such as the Korean sea lion, the Sapsal dog, and Dokdo shrimp,” and added, “I wanted to create a series of videos representing the flora and fauna of Dokdo to promote them widely at home and abroad.”

He further mentioned, “The video is being spread not only on YouTube but also through various social networking services (SNS), and we are consistently sharing it with major Korean and international student communities around the world.”

Lee Soo-ji, who provided the Korean narration, expressed, “I am happy to directly introduce the native plants of Dokdo, and I hope many netizens at home and abroad will watch it.”

Meanwhile, Professor Seo Kyung-duk, who is active as a promotional ambassador for Dokdo content in Gyeongsangbuk-do, plans to unveil an animation about the Korean sea lion of Dokdo within this year in collaboration with the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation's Content Promotion Agency.
