Judge Jeong Hyun-sook revealed that she was surprised by the number of divorce cases.
On the 21st, Judge Jeong Hyun-sook, who has officiated approximately 5,000 divorces, appeared as a guest on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block'.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk asked, "According to the statistics office, the number of divorces in 2024 is said to have reached the lowest level in 28 years. Is it true that the divorce rate among young couples has decreased?" Judge Jeong Hyun-sook replied, "Statistically, that may be the case. However, these days, many couples live together without registering their marriage. As a result, we are seeing an increase in cases of alimony and property division due to the dissolution of de facto marriages in our court."
When Yoo Jae-suk asked, "How many divorce trials do you conduct in a week?" Judge Jeong Hyun-sook surprised everyone by saying, "I handle 50 divorce lawsuits a day and 130 mutual divorces a day."
She continued, "Because there are so many divorce cases, I, for instance, handle 3 cases every 10 minutes in a single session. Mathematically, that means 3 minutes per case. When I first came to the family court, I wondered if families could survive with so many divorces happening."
