The character posters of the main leads of 'Good Boy', Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok have been officially released.
JTBC's new weekend drama 'Good Boy' (written by Lee Dae-il, directed by Shim Na-yeon) is a comic action youth investigation drama about medalists who became police officers through special recruitment, wearing police badges instead of medals, and fighting against a world filled with dishonesty and rule-breaking.
Directed by Shim Na-yeon, who won the TV Drama Award at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for 'Monster' and created the hit 'Bad Mom', and written by Lee Dae-il, known for his unique genre works like 'Life on Mars' and the 'Advisor' series, this drama is gaining attention. Along with images that allow viewers to grasp each character at a glance, the actors have also shared keyword comments about their characters, drawing significant interest.
First, Yoon Dong-joo (Park Bo-gum), a police officer who is a former boxing gold medalist, has been demoted to a patrol officer due to a series of accidents and is starting over from the lowest position. He is a character that fits the phrase 'never back down' rather than recklessness, and although he is rough and clumsy, he has a deep-seated passion and an unexpected instinct to charge forward.
Set against a refreshing yet strong 'blue' background, his bandaged hands and sweat-soaked face evoke memories of the fierce times he endured in the ring, and his sharp gaze reveals his unyielding tenacity and pride. Park Bo-gum stated, "Yoon Dong-joo, who punishes lowly injustices, is a 'bulldozer' who doesn't even allow a chance to escape with his burning sense of justice."
Ji Han-na (Kim So-hyun), a former shooting gold medalist known as the 'Goddess of Shooting', currently serves as a sergeant in the special forces team, showcasing her cold focus on the target while gripping a shotgun. Beyond her cold gaze lies a calmness and decisiveness honed in real combat, and the tension of the moment just before pulling the trigger is palpable.
Kim So-hyun defined Ji Han-na, who has a 'red' heart in her cold head, as a 'radar'. Her ability to analyze situations calmly without being swayed by emotions and accurately capture her targets represents her character.
Kim Jong-hyun (Lee Sang-yi), a silver medalist in fencing, is a sergeant in the special forces team with sharp intelligence and keen senses. The 'white' image, characterized by neat styling and a piercing gaze, recalls his past of always competing with meticulously calculated movements.
Lee Sang-yi compared the meticulous and rational Kim Jong-hyun to 'glasses with cracks'. He added, "While cracks can be dangerous, I can't easily discard these glasses that fit me best. With these glasses, I will walk my own path!" revealing the beliefs embedded in his character.
Go Man-sik (Heo Sung-tae), who showcased his tenacity and endurance during his time as a national wrestling team member, now leads the special team as its captain. Having become a veteran detective whose old jacket fits him better than a wrestling bodysuit, his steadfast expression conveys the weight of a leader more accustomed to negotiation and patience than fighting.
Like the yellow color that blends naturally with any hue, Go Man-sik is the connecting link and coordinator who unites his uniquely strong team members. He likened Go Man-sik to a 'father', explaining, "He is a remarkable and respected figure who is always fearful and anxious but ultimately pushes forward for his family and colleagues."
Shin Jae-hong (Tae Won-seok), a former national discus thrower, reveals a playful expression that contrasts with his overwhelming physique, showcasing his unexpected charm. While he upholds the simple principle that strength equals justice, he has become a livelihood detective who carefully assesses situations, thinking of the family he needs to support.
Nevertheless, Tae Won-seok described him as a 'pine tree' representing pure green. "Because he embodies the steadiness and diligence of always being in place with his team members." Although he may seem to take a step back, there is anticipation for the moment he will showcase his power when it is truly needed.
Min Joo-young (Oh Jung-se) hides a terrifying face as the biggest villain in the customs department behind the facade of an ordinary customs officer. Unlike other characters, the 'black' poster featuring an 'X' sign instead of a sports pictogram creates an alien atmosphere. Notably, in this poster, while the five characters gaze in one direction, Min Joo-young is turned the opposite way, visually highlighting the stark contrast between 'those who try to catch' and 'those who try not to be caught.'
Oh Jung-se recalled Min Joo-young's line, "I don't remember well," stating, "Through this, I aimed to reflect the monsters that live and breathe around us. We must remember, punish, and contain these monsters," expressing his determination to reveal the reality of evil.
The production team stated, "This poster visually expresses various characters that allow viewers to grasp each character's former sport, current role, and emotional line. After the first broadcast on the 31st, viewers will find more meaning by intersecting these characters' narratives. We hope you will definitely tune in to the live broadcast."
'Good Boy', which will premiere on Saturday, May 31, at 10:40 PM on JTBC, will also be available to global viewers through the streaming service Amazon Prime Video.
