Singer Son Dam-bi revealed her reason for deciding to share the childbirth experience on ‘Our Baby is Born’ by saying, “I thought it would be meaningful to share the process of childbirth.”
On the 9th, the new TV CHOSUN entertainment show ‘Our Baby is Born’ features the couple Son Dam-bi and Lee Gyu-hyuk, who had a difficult start to pregnancy through in vitro fertilization.
After giving birth to her daughter ‘Hae-yi’ on the 11th of last month, Son Dam-bi faced a situation where bleeding was expected during childbirth due to a diagnosis of ‘placenta previa’ blocking the birth canal. However, both the mother and baby were able to complete the childbirth process healthily through a cesarean section. Son Dam-bi recalled the moment she first faced her baby, saying, “I was overwhelmed to the point of wondering if I really gave birth to such a small and precious being.”
‘Hae-yi’s mom’ Son Dam-bi participated in a Q&A session.
1. It must have been busy just focusing on childbirth, but I’m curious about what made you decide to appear on ‘Our Baby is Born’.
- The childbirth itself was overwhelming, but I had a strong desire to capture the process of my child being born on video to keep as a good memory. Especially since low birth rates are a social issue now, I thought it would be meaningful to share this process. There will come a day when we can watch it together as a family, and I believe it will be a precious memory for my child when they grow up and see this scene, which is why I decided to participate.
2. What were the aspects you were most concerned about or worried about while preparing for childbirth?
- I was grateful that I could spend my pregnancy relatively comfortably without morning sickness or food aversions. However, I did receive a diagnosis of ‘placenta previa’ and had various concerns, so I wasn’t without worries. Fortunately, with the help of the medical staff, the surgery went well, and I was able to recover quickly, but I only realized the weight of the situation after hearing later that it was a more difficult surgery than expected.
3. What were your feelings when you first found out you were pregnant?
- It was the second attempt after the first in vitro fertilization failed, and I was able to achieve a good result quickly, for which I am grateful. I had anxiety that if it didn’t work this time, it could turn into a long-term battle, but I remember crying with my husband when I miraculously became pregnant on the second attempt. Since this child was conceived through in vitro fertilization, they felt incredibly precious, and at that moment, I was truly grateful and happy.
4. You finally got to meet such a precious child. How did you feel when you first faced your baby after childbirth?
- I recovered quickly after general anesthesia, so I was able to see my baby the very next day. When I first faced my baby through the glass wall, I cried. Facing such a small and precious being made me feel overwhelmed to the point of wondering if I really gave birth to them. Our Hae-yi was born weighing 2.68 kg, but seeing her in person, she looked even smaller, so I was cautious even about holding her at first. I vividly remember the moment I first held her while starting breastfeeding at the hospital, feeling so small and fragile that I didn’t know what to do. I had a vague fear of whether I could do well, but just holding this small life in my arms brought me an indescribable joy.
5. Please share a highlight for viewers and say a word to them.
- I got married and had a child at a relatively late age, and I met my child through in vitro fertilization. So, I want to convey hope to those who may be preparing for late marriage or childbirth that it is possible to have a healthy child. Personally, I was able to stay healthy throughout my pregnancy and tried to maintain a positive energy in my daily life until the day of childbirth. I hope that this aspect is conveyed through the broadcast. Childbirth is not easy for anyone, but I wanted to show that if you prepare and approach it with a brighter mindset, you can meet your child healthily. Thank you for all the congratulations, and I will raise our child Hae-yi healthily.
TV CHOSUN’s ‘Our Baby is Born’, which captures the joy of childbirth by visiting the scene of new life and cheering and celebrating, will premiere on the 9th at 10 PM.
