‘Good Woman Busemi’ has built a cast that raises expectations.
Scheduled to air in the second half of 2025, the Genie TV original ‘Good Woman Busemi’ (written by Hyun Kyu-ri, directed by Park Yoo-young) is a crime romance drama where a poor female bodyguard, who dreams of a big break, must survive for three months by changing her identity while evading those who seek her vast inheritance after entering into a contract marriage with a terminally ill chaebol chairman.
With director Park Yoo-young, who received acclaim for the well-made drama ‘Kidnapping Day’ based on a novel, and writer Hyun Kyu-ri, who penned the critically acclaimed film ‘The Owl’, joining forces, Jeon Yeo-bin, Jin Young, Seo Hyun-woo, Jang Yoon-joo, and Joo Hyun-young have been cast, generating significant buzz.
First, Jeon Yeo-bin will play Kim Young-ran, the bodyguard of the owner of the Kaseong Group. Kim Young-ran, who has lived a desperate and miserable life due to money, is given the life of a fictional character named ‘Busemi’, who boasts a luxurious background that is the complete opposite of her own. As the ‘Good Woman Busemi’, she will face a life that is 180 degrees different. Expectations are high for Jeon Yeo-bin's unique challenge as she transforms into Kim Young-ran.
Meanwhile, Jin Young will portray Jeon Dong-min, a single father who raises his son while farming strawberries in the countryside. He is the only one in the village who is wary of the perfect Busemi (played by Jeon Yeo-bin), who has become his son's new kindergarten teacher. Attention is drawn to Jin Young's portrayal of the character Jeon Dong-min, who is a bit grumpy but warm-hearted, as he becomes a hero from a villain in the face of the fake kindergarten teacher Busemi who is hiding her identity.
Seo Hyun-woo will take on the role of Lee Don, the personal lawyer dedicated to Chairman Kae, who will stop at nothing for money. A brilliant mind who has risen from humble beginnings, he realizes the harsh reality stained by connections and blood ties, and with the determination to become something, even if not a dragon, at least an eel, he seeks to turn his life around. Curiosity grows about the character Lee Don, who will be brought to life by Seo Hyun-woo's delicate acting.
On the other hand, Jang Yoon-joo will take on the role of Ga Seon-young, the stepdaughter of the Kaseong Group owner, marking her acting transformation. Through Ga Seon-young, who is skilled in image-making and will go to any lengths to get what she wants, the drama hints at a duality of character that is thoroughly different on the outside and inside. Anticipation is rising for Jang Yoon-joo's portrayal of the cold and chilling character Ga Seon-young.
Finally, Joo Hyun-young has been cast as Baek Hye-ji, who works as a helper in the mansion of the Kaseong Group owner. Living as a roommate with Kim Young-ran (played by Jeon Yeo-bin) in the mansion's annex, Baek Hye-ji has a natural demeanor but also possesses an inscrutable attitude. With Joo Hyun-young's versatile acting, she is expected to deliver a strong presence that is unpredictable.
The production team of ‘Good Woman Busemi’ stated, “We feel incredibly reassured to have actors who are full of talent and acting skills joining us,” and added, “We will present a story that coexists with the thrill of an unpredictable narrative surrounding money and desire in a materialistic society, as well as warmth and excitement that cannot be bought with money, so we ask for your interest and anticipation.”
The Genie TV original ‘Good Woman Busemi’, featuring the passionate performances of Jeon Yeo-bin, Jin Young, Seo Hyun-woo, Jang Yoon-joo, and Joo Hyun-young, will be released in the second half of 2025 through Genie TV and ENA.
