Dexter Studios, which has proven its solid production capabilities by creating hit works such as the 'Along with the Gods' series, 'Escape from Mogadishu', and 'Ashfall', is entering the drama production business with tvN's 'The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl', transforming into a comprehensive content company.
Dexter Pictures, a subsidiary of Dexter Studios (206560) led by CEO Kim Dong-hyun, has confirmed the scheduling of its first produced drama 'The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl' for broadcast on tvN in the second half of the year, expanding its production business area.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, 'The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl' (Director: Kim Yong-wan, Writer: Yang Ji-hoon, Production: Studio Dragon, Dexter Pictures, Eo Content Group) is a youth romance drama that depicts the story of a high school girl shaman who tries to save her ill-fated first love. Expectations are high for the meeting of Jo Yi-hyun, who has been recognized for her acting skills with lovable and strong characters in series like 'Hospital Playlist' and 'The Wedding Battle', and Choo Young-woo, who has risen as a hot trend actor through 'The Tale of Nokdu' and 'Trauma Center'.
In particular, Dexter Studios, which boasts top-level visual effects (VFX) and digital color grading (DI) in Asia, will present a work with differentiated visual completeness at the level of overseas OTT platforms. This project will be the first drama to operate the all-in-one pipeline of the Dexter Group, covering planning, production, and post-production.
As global demand for K-content continues to rise, Dexter Pictures, an independent content production company that was launched in 2022, has separated from the content division of Dexter Studios. It aims to enhance the autonomy and independence of content production, promoting planning and production across a wide range of fields, including films, dramas, and short-form content. With 'The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl' confirmed for major broadcasting, the company plans to solidify its position as a 'comprehensive content production company' by continuously discovering excellent IPs. The production business of Dexter Pictures is underway based on over 20 IPs, including webtoons and web novels, with plans to sequentially release multiple works.
Key lineups include ▲ 'Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure', 'Himalayas', and 'Confidential Assignment 2: International', marking the first OTT series 'Mertel Dosa' by director Lee Seok-hoon, who has proven his excellent directing skills ▲ 'Now, I Can Love' co-directed by Lee Min-woo of 'Namnam' and writer Jae-sun of 'Semantic Error', based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name ▲ A Korean version of 'Maze Runner' titled 'Biwon', utilizing Hollywood virtual production technology on an overwhelming scale ▲ A romance fantasy 'Dive to You', co-produced with Amuse Entertainment as a Japan-Korea joint project, among others.
CEO Kim Dong-hyun of Dexter Pictures stated, "'The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl' is the first work that expands Dexter Pictures' planning and development capabilities into drama, and it will be an important turning point in becoming a 'comprehensive content production company'. He added, "Dexter Pictures plans to collaborate with various creators in the future to present a high-quality spectrum of works across genres, including films, dramas, and short-form content."
