The endlessly challenging life of overseas Korean broadcaster Hwang Jin-i left a deep impression.
In the first part of the Lunar New Year special KBS1 global Korean travel program 'Kim Young-chul Goes' aired on the 28th, the challenges of Hwang Jin-i, the first Korean anchor in South America, were introduced, stirring the hearts of not only domestic viewers but also overseas Koreans living around the world.
After a 30-hour flight, Kim Young-chul arrived in Buenos Aires to meet Hwang Jin-i, a broadcaster and former news anchor from Argentina.
Hwang Jin-i is the first and only Asian news anchor in Latin America and an influencer with over 1.45 million subscribers, introducing K-pop and Korean culture, and is loved as a star across South America.
Serving as a bridge between Korea and Argentina, Hwang Jin-i, who receives love calls from various broadcasts, had to start recording as soon as she greeted Kim Young-chul.
After a brief moment of regret, Kim Young-chul, who was introduced unexpectedly by Hwang Jin-i on Argentine television, showcased his unique relaxed broadcasting manner developed over years of acting and cleverly mentioned Messi and Maradona for the local soccer fans, delighting the local panel with his cheerful performance.
The meeting with Argentine superstar singer Soledad Pastorutti, which became a hot topic as the first interview in the Asian region, also caught attention. Hwang Jin-i presented her with a hanbok, showcasing the beauty of Korean culture, to which Soledad responded, "Korean culture touches the hearts of people around the world," sending greetings to Korean viewers through 'Global Korean Travel Kim Young-chul Goes.'
When the song "Apartment" by Rosé played at the Buenos Aires Asian Culture Festival, where Hwang Jin-i appeared as an MC representing Asia, Kim Young-chul swayed to the rhythm with the locals singing along, bringing laughter to the viewers.
Throughout the filming, Kim Young-chul watched Hwang Jin-i's passionate daily life with a proud fatherly smile and felt heartbroken hearing her struggles to become a main anchor on terrestrial television, a position that even locals find challenging.
Listening quietly to the life story of overseas Korean Hwang Jin-i, who did not lose her dreams and worked hard to achieve success despite adversities in a foreign country, Kim Young-chul offered warm words of comfort and encouragement, saying, "Just as the tango of Argentina embodies the sorrows of immigrants, (Hwang Jin-i's life) must have had unexpressed pains to reach this point," concluding their meaningful first global journey.
Part 2 of 'Kim Young-chul Goes' featuring Chef Hwang Jung-in from San Francisco will air on the 29th at 9:40 PM.
