Jung Seok-yong was startled by the visit of Jung Young-joo's parents.
On the afternoon of the 5th, SBS's entertainment program ‘My Ugly Duckling’ (hereinafter ‘My Ugly Duckling’) featured Choi Jin-hyuk and Jung Young-joo.
In this episode, Choi Jin-hyuk held a fan meeting in Indonesia, and his mother filled the seats with Indonesian fans. When fans asked, "Can we take a picture with you, mom?" she shyly replied, "What should I do?"
While preparing for the concert, Choi Jin-hyuk showed signs of nervousness when an employee said, "300 more people are coming and setting up chairs," saying, "Really? I'm the most nervous today... Should I tell them to go?"
As the fan meeting began, Choi Jin-hyuk appeared singing among the audience, heading to the stage surrounded by fans.
After a powerful performance of the OSTs from ‘The Heirs’ and ‘Gu Family Book’, the song ‘Standing Next to You’ by BTS's Jungkook, which Jin-hyuk had practiced hard, played. Unlike his struggling practice stage, he showcased top-notch dance skills that surprised the fans, who cheered, "Oppa, you did well!"
For the final song, Jin-hyuk passionately sang ‘I Want to Run and Hug You’, which he wrote himself. The fans prepared a surprise event with a sign that read, "Shine brightly like the sun during the day and like the stars at night." Moved, Choi Jin-hyuk shed tears and said, "Mom, isn't this nice? After looking around, she chose a ring worth 15 million rupiah, equivalent to about 13.3 million won, and exclaimed, "Expensive! Expensive!"
Next, they discovered a Russian emerald priced at 26 million won, and the two decided to move on, saying, "Since it's our first time here, let's look around a bit more." His mother revealed her language skills, saying, "I studied yesterday! Mahal (it's expensive), Minta diskon (please give me a discount)."
Jin-hyuk said, "This is called Bachan! I want to show you something, mom. This gem is called Bachan. President Obama received it as a gift. Try it on," and at the price of 260,000 won, he said, "It's not bad, right?" However, his mother hesitated, saying, "Let's think about it," and Jin-hyuk insisted, "Just get it! It fits perfectly!" and bought the ring for her.
However, when they found the same Bachan ring at another place for 35,480 won, his mother worried, "How much was it before? Did you make a mistake? What's wrong?" Jin-hyuk replied, "Yours is much better. This one is also 35,000 won, right?" and was taken aback. His mother scolded, "Why didn't you ask for a discount earlier? Minta diskon!! I taught you that!" Hearing this, the staff immediately offered a price of 15,000 won.
It turned out that the clearer the color, the more expensive it was. However, unaware of this, his mother angrily said, "Let's return the previous one. The price difference is tenfold!"
Afterward, the two enjoyed a total of six dishes, including lobster sashimi, soy sauce marinated shrimp, and traditional Indonesian snacks called otak-otak. His mother said, "The fan meeting yesterday was touching, and I'm so grateful. Time flew by. I cried! At first. I had a hard time holding back tears. It reminded me of the past. I came to Seoul to become a singer back then. I think it all started from there. I rented that expensive house, and the rent was 1.2 million won at that time. Someone came and said they would make Jin-hyuk a singer, but at first, they said it wouldn't cost anything. They kept saying I needed to get a room, and the amount kept increasing. The money kept going up. I was so proud. You worked hard," she said, wiping her tears.
After the meal, when Jin-hyuk received the bill, he exclaimed, "450,000 won? Oh, this... Jakarta lobster is three times more expensive than Korean lobster," and his mother jokingly cursed, "Hey, damn it," which made everyone laugh again.
In the second segment of ‘My Ugly Duckling’, Jung Young-joo and Jung Seok-yong appeared, and Young-joo welcomed him, saying, "Welcome, honey! You look really pretty today!" Young-joo suggested they buy materials together to decorate the tree, saying, "Do you make a tree at home? This time, I want to make it really pretty."
She then said, "I don't know what to buy. I want to buy everything," purchasing items worth over 500,000 won, which made her mother furious.
After arriving at Jung Young-joo's house, the two decided to decorate the Christmas tree, and Young-joo exclaimed, "I can't believe we're doing this together!" while having fun decorating the tree. Seok-yong shared, "When I was in my mid-40s, I thought a lot about marriage. Most ordinary people look for a partner and get married, but I thought, am I abnormal? What's wrong with me that I can't get married? But now, I don't think about it much," expressing his views on marriage. Young-joo candidly replied, "When I was getting divorced, I thought, can't I even keep this?"
