Actor Lee Geon-joo, who became a shaman, shared the story of how he received a spirit.
On the 18th, MBC's 'Radio Star' featured guests Yeogyeong-rae, Kim Hyung-mook, Jung Seong-ho, and Lee Geon-joo.
On this day, Lee Geon-joo said, "I received a spirit in August and have been walking the path of a shaman. My schedule is fully booked until November next year. I have hundreds of reservations. My phone has been overwhelmed."
Lee Geon-joo, who has been receiving numerous entertainment offers since receiving the spirit, expressed, "I appeared on 'My Little Old Boy' in September, and that broadcast achieved a viewership rating of 16.6%, ranking first in weekly entertainment ratings. Since I am also appearing on 'Radio Star' today, I hope to achieve the number one rating again."
He continued, "I think the perception of shamans has changed these days. People seem to feel more friendly and comfortable with us," expressing his gratitude.
Lee Geon-joo shared how he came to receive the spirit. He said, "While meeting with friends, I suddenly heard a bell sound. I thought I might have misheard it and brushed it off. But that evening, while I was at a friend's house talking and playing, I heard a woman's voice next to me as I was trying to sleep. I thought nothing of it in my half-asleep state, but the next morning, I realized that there was no way external voices could be heard. I thought it was just a condition issue, but strangely, I kept receiving offers to appear on YouTube, all related to shamans."
He added, "At that time, I had so little work that I needed to earn money, so I appeared. However, every shaman I met said, 'You need to receive a spirit,' 'You should become a shaman.' It was a bit confusing."
Lee Geon-joo, who was struggling with depression at the time, said, "I didn't think of this depression as a spiritual affliction. I even thought, 'I might really die like this.' Then, I met my spiritual father at my grandmother's ritual. He told me to come out, dressed me, and told me to run. I started running, and tears just flowed. I shook the five-directional flag without even realizing it. That's when I knew I had to receive a spirit."
Lee Geon-joo also mentioned that he rode the sword board, saying, "I was very worried because the sword blade was sharp. But when I actually got on, I felt nothing. I just cried. I cried so hard." He recalled tearing up while watching a video of himself crying on the sword board.
Lee Geon-joo said, "Many people said, 'Are you doing shamanism just to get attention because you have nothing else to do?' I can confidently say that I became a shaman because I want to live. At first, such comments upset me, but now I understand," he smiled.
