Comedian Park Na-rae became emotional while reminiscing about her grandparents.
In the episode of MBC's ‘I Live Alone’ aired on the 13th, Park Na-rae was shown preparing for kimjang with Jung Jae-hyung.
On that day, Park Na-rae visited a traditional market to buy ingredients for kimjang. She said, "Finally, the spicy season has returned. Kimjang is a long-term project that lasts up to three years, so I came to buy fresh ingredients."
Park Na-rae shared, "Until the year before last, I received kimjang kimchi. But since my grandfather is no longer here and my grandmother is ill, the kimjang kimchi I ate last summer was the last. If you ask me what my last meal would be before I die, I would say kimchi stew made with my grandmother and grandfather's kimchi. My favorite food is kimchi made with my grandparents' recipe. I don't think I've ever eaten rice without kimchi. Now I feel like I have to make it myself," she said, getting choked up.
Park Na-rae bought 3.5 kg of dried peppers, 10 kg of garlic, and 2 bundles of water parsley, and returned home. She then began the kimjang process by preparing the ingredients.
At that moment, Jung Jae-hyung, a neighbor, came to visit. He came believing Park Na-rae's suggestion to eat wine with the fresh kimchi, but ended up helping with the kimjang.
Park Na-rae made an effort to replicate her grandmother's kimjang seasoning and eventually succeeded in achieving that taste. She said, "I realized that I have been living a blessed life. I bought all the kimjang ingredients, but my grandparents grew their own. However, I have never paid for kimjang. I felt so sorry," she said, tearing up.
After 8 hours, Park Na-rae and Jung Jae-hyung completed the kimjang. Park Na-rae brought the kimjang kimchi to the studio and shared it with the Rainbow members. She said, "I have this belief. Meeting together, making delicious food, and talking is of great value. I wanted to share that. They say sharing food builds virtue. This is the most I can give," which created a warm atmosphere.
