Singer Jeong Mi-ae recalled the time of her throat cancer surgery and shed tears.
In the episode of KBS2’s ‘Superman Returns’ aired on the 4th, Jeong Mi-ae was shown visiting her parents' home.
On that day, Jeong Mi-ae went to her parents' house in Daegu to help with kimjang (making kimchi). Jeong Mi-ae said, “My schedule is busy, but my mom has a lot of kimjang work, so I’m here to help. I’m going to make my husband work too.”
However, Jeong Mi-ae's husband just smiled and took pictures of the children. When Jeong Mi-ae scolded him, her husband joked, “I’m making memories.”
Jeong Mi-ae spread out a mat and had a snack time. Jeong Mi-ae's son asked his grandmother about his mother, Jeong Mi-ae. Jeong Mi-ae's mother praised her, saying, “Jeong Mi-ae has sung well since she was a child. She danced well too.”
Jeong Mi-ae's son asked her, “Did you dream of being a singer since you were little?” Jeong Mi-ae replied, “I didn’t dream of being a singer. I did folk songs. I was a traditional music person. I became a singer because of my mom.” Jeong Mi-ae's mother then surprised everyone by saying, “I applied for ‘National Singing Contest’ because Jeong Mi-ae sang well.”
While making kimchi, only Jeong Mi-ae and her mother were left. Jeong Mi-ae's mother expressed her concern for Jeong Mi-ae, who had been suffering from a cold for several days. Jeong Mi-ae's mother said, “I only worry about you all the time. When I see you singing, my heart aches and I cry. Other people can comfortably watch your stage, but for me, it tears my heart apart,” she said, choking up.
Jeong Mi-ae, who was diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer, revealed that she couldn’t tell her mother about the surgery and informed her about the cancer on the day of the surgery. Jeong Mi-ae confessed, “I was worried about my mom, so I couldn’t bring myself to say it.”
Jeong Mi-ae's mother said, “I can’t express in words how I felt when I heard that you, whom I trusted like the heavens, are sick. You have children too, so you must understand a mother’s heart. Don’t get sick,” she said. Hearing this, Jeong Mi-ae silently shed tears.
