The group SEVENTEEN (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, Dokyeom, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) has set the record for the highest first-week sales in K-pop this year with their 5th studio album.
According to the album sales tracking site Hanteo Chart on the 2nd, SEVENTEEN's 5th album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' sold a total of 2,521,208 copies in its first week (tracking period from May 26 to June 1), securing the top spot on the weekly album chart. This is the highest figure among K-pop albums released this year.
On the day of their comeback, they became the first double million-seller in K-pop this year, adding another significant record with their first-week sales and showcasing their status as the 'top group in K-pop'. SEVENTEEN is known for continuously increasing their album sales even after the first-week sales tracking is completed, raising expectations for their future achievements.
'HAPPY BURSTDAY' is sweeping both domestic and international album charts. The new release immediately topped Hanteo Chart's daily album chart and the 'Worldwide iTunes Album' chart, and maintained the number one position on Japan's Oricon 'Daily Album Ranking' for five consecutive days (from May 27 to 31). On China's QQ Music, it reached number one in both daily and weekly 'Digital Bestseller Album' categories and received the 'Diamond Album Certification' for surpassing 5 million yuan in sales.
The title track 'THUNDER' is also making waves. The song topped the Bugs daily chart for two consecutive days (May 30-31). With minimal fluctuations in the top rankings, it has also reached the top of Melon's 'Top 100', known as the 'concrete chart', and remains a fixture in the upper ranks. Given the positive online response to the 'THUNDER' performance showcased on music shows, the upward trend in music rankings is expected to gain further momentum.
SEVENTEEN boasts significant influence not only in album sales but also in the global performance market. According to the annual semi-annual report released by Billboard, they achieved approximately $120.9 million in ticket sales from October 1 of last year to March 31 of this year. This is the third highest ticket sales among global artists and the highest record for a K-pop artist.
SEVENTEEN continues to be active in both music shows and entertainment content.
Their highly anticipated third collaboration with PD Na Young-seok, 'Nana Minbak with SEVENTEEN', finally premieres today (the 2nd). The main episodes will be released simultaneously in South Korea every Monday on tvN and Disney+, and will also be available in 77 countries and regions worldwide through global platforms. The full version, which boasts longer content than the main episodes, will be available on Weverse every Monday and Friday over a total of six episodes.
On the 4th, Joshua will appear on the web entertainment show 'Naraesik', and on the 6th, Seungkwan and Vernon will visit 'Halmyungsoo', while Mingyu will join 'Hyeol's club'.
