Megabox has launched a short film brand called 'Short Film' and has selected Bong Joon-ho's early work 'Incoherence' as its first screening, which will be released exclusively on the 27th.
'Short Film' is a sub-brand of 'MEGA ONLY', which refers to all exclusive content that can only be seen at Megabox. It will select one short film each month, including early works by master directors, award-winning films from film festivals, and unique short films by new directors, for exclusive theatrical releases.
Short films, which have mainly been introduced through film festivals held for specific periods, are expected to reach a wider audience through Megabox.
The opening work of 'Short Film' is 'Incoherence' (1994), the graduation film of Bong Joon-ho from KAFA (Korean Academy of Film Arts), recognized worldwide as a master. The omnibus-style short film 'Incoherence' sharply satirizes the hypocrisy and true nature of the social elite with humor, and has a runtime of 30 minutes. 'Incoherence' will be released exclusively at over 50 Megabox locations on August 27.
To present a wider range of works, Megabox collaborates with the short and independent film distribution company 'Indistory' and 'KAFA'. Additionally, to provide the best viewing experience, it is promoting a super-scaled 4K release in partnership with 'Inshots', which possesses AI upscaling solution technology.
Recently, Megabox has been quickly showcasing well-made short films. Director Hur Ga-young's 'First Summer', which won the first prize in the La Cinef section at the Cannes Film Festival, was released exclusively on the 6th and received positive reviews. In June, it also exclusively screened the short animated films 'Glasses' and 'Paranoid Kid' by director Jung Yu-mi, which were officially invited to the Cannes Film Festival, in a continuous screening format.
Kim Joo-hong, head of the content planning team at Megabox, stated, “We are preparing a diverse lineup of short films, from masterpieces that have only been heard of through rumors to works by new directors that will bring a fresh breeze to the film industry.” He added, “I hope 'Short Film' will serve as an opportunity to highlight emerging creators and contribute to the diversity of theatrical content.”
Meanwhile, Megabox operates the brand 'MEGA ONLY', which refers to all exclusive content that can only be seen at Megabox.
From films that possess both artistic value and box office success, such as 'Attack on Titan: The Final Season - The Last Attack', 'Look Back', and 'Love Letter', to various content like musicals, concerts, and live viewings such as 'Elisabeth: The Musical Live' and 'ENHYPEN VR Concert: Immerse', Megabox provides a differentiated theatrical experience.
