Ian Watkins, formerly of the British rock band Lostprophets, has died after being attacked by inmates while incarcerated.

On the 11th (local time), British media including The Sun reported that Ian Watkins died after being attacked by two inmates.

West Yorkshire Police stated that they responded to a report of a serious assault on one inmate and confirmed that Ian Watkins was found dead at the scene.

It was later reported that two men, aged 25 and 43, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Watkins had previously been assaulted by three other inmates in prison in 2023.

In 2013, Watkins was convicted of child sexual offenses and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

He was found guilty of charges including the rape of an infant aged 11 months, the rape of a child under 13, conspiracy to rape a child, sexual assault of a child, making, producing, or possessing child pornography, and possession of extreme pornography involving sexual acts with animals.

The court at the time described his actions as “shocking acts of depravity” and imposed a heavy sentence.

Born in 1977 in Wales, Watkins gained popularity as the frontman of the band Lostprophets in the early 2000s.

After his criminal activities were revealed in 2012, the band also began the process of disbanding.
