A presidential Cultural Exchange Committee, centered around Park Jin-young, CEO of JYP Entertainment, has been launched, with representatives from major domestic agencies such as HYBE, SM, and YG Entertainment participating as private members.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the appointment of 26 private members to the presidential Cultural Exchange Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) and declared its launch on the 1st.

The Committee will be co-chaired by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young and Park Jin-young, CEO of JYP Entertainment, to actively operate a public-private collaboration system.

The Committee is composed of government and private members to respond to the rapidly changing international environment and actively reflect private expertise. The government members consist of deputy ministers from 10 relevant ministries and the social chief of the presidential office, while 26 private members are appointed from 7 subcommittees.

The total capacity is 50 members, and currently, 39 members have been formed. The Ministry plans to expand the composition as needed in the future so that the Committee can address the popular culture industry and related industries broadly and deeply.

The private member subcommittees are divided into popular music, games, webtoon animation, film and video, lifestyle, investment, and policy. Among them, the popular music subcommittee includes Jang Cheol-hyuk, CEO of SM Entertainment, Lee Jae-sang, CEO of HYBE, Yang Min-seok, CEO of YG Entertainment, and Jung Wook, CEO of JYP Entertainment, encompassing all four major agencies in Korea.

The film and video subcommittee includes Yoon Sang-hyun, CEO of CJ ENM, Hong Jung-in, CEO of Contentree Central, Lee Sang-baek, CEO of Ace Story, Kim Jong-yeol, CEO of Lotte Cultureworks, and Kim Ji-yeon, CEO of First Man Studio.

The Committee was established under the Lee Jae-myung government, and the regulations regarding its establishment and operation were reviewed and approved at the Cabinet meeting the day before. It was formed to establish a public-private collaboration system necessary for the dissemination of popular culture such as music, drama, film, and games amid high global interest in Korean culture.

Additionally, the Ministry plans to launch a new Cultural and Artistic Policy Advisory Committee directly under the Minister to broadly gather opinions from the cultural and artistic field.

The two organizations are expected to discuss development plans for each field and the overall foundation of the cultural and artistic ecosystem, serving as two pillars to collect and promote policy suggestions for achieving the K-Culture 300 trillion won goal and realizing a cultural powerhouse.
