As the ‘Cup Noodle Eating Challenge’ imitating the protagonists of the Netflix animation ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ (K-Demon Hunter) spreads on social media, a children's hospital in the United States has urged caution regarding burn accidents.
According to the New York Times (NYT) on the 29th (local time), Boston's Shriners Children's Hospital recently mentioned in a statement posted on the hospital's website that a social media challenge imitating the scene of the ‘K-Demon Hunter’ protagonists eating cup noodles is trending.
In fact, on video-sharing platforms like TikTok, there are numerous videos of children eating small cup noodles like the characters in ‘K-Demon Hunter’ with hashtags such as ‘#KPopNoodleChallenge’ and ‘#DemonHuntersNoodle’.
The hospital stated, “Cup noodles account for about one-third of burn incidents in children. We see such injuries 2 to 3 times a week at Shriners Hospital.”
During the process of preparing and eating cup noodles, there is a risk of spilling boiling water or hot contents when taking out cup noodles that require microwave cooking, so extra caution is advised.
The hospital warned, “The younger the child, the thinner the skin, and they can get burned at lower temperatures than adults. We are not saying that children should not participate in fun trends. They should participate safely, under adult supervision. Just one spill of cup noodles can leave painful, lifelong scars.”
Meanwhile, ‘K-Demon Hunter’ is a work that depicts the K-pop girl group HuntRix defeating a boy group made up of evil spirits, the Lion Boys, to protect the world with their songs. After its release in June, it set the record for the highest-grossing animation on Netflix.
